I don't think you will find any contemporary records supporting the birth of GEORGE HENRY MERTZ to PETER MERTZ and a MISS SHERIDAN. Geri, According to records of Mertz Church in Rockland Township, Berks County,PA, GEORG HEINRICH MERTZ was born 5 Sep 1755, baptized 12 September, 1755 with sponsors Georg Merkle and Christina, wife. He was the son of JOHANN HEINRICH MERTZ and wf ANNA MARIA ROSSMAN. The rest is correct: Georg Heinrich (George Henry) married Eva Good, whose son, (General) Henry Mertz was born 22 June 1782 in Lehigh County.
