History of Cumberland Co Jacob Miller Haldeman, was born March 4, 1781 in Manheim township, Lancaster Co., and died Dec 15, 1857, in Harrisburg. Jacob Haldeman, the grandfather of J.M. was born Oct 7, 1722 in the Canton of Neufchatel, Switzerland, and died Feb 27, 1783 in Rapho township, Lancaster Co. Jacob was one of the earliest settlers of Lancaster, he married Mary Miller, d/o Henry Miller, of Earl township and had a family of 12 John Holdeman, s/o Jacob, was born in 1753, he married Maria Brennenman, and he died 1823. John moved to Locust Grove, Conoy township, Lancaster Co. Bayard Taylor's grandfather, a mason, worked on his mill, and ran away with and married a relative of Mr. Haldeman. John Miller in 1810 married Eliza Ewing Jacobs, who was born at Mt. Hope Furnace, Lancaster Co., June1789 Haldeman, Richard Jacobs, youngest child of Jacob Miller and Eliza Ewing (Jacobs) Haldeman, was born at Harrisburg, May 19, 1831. On May 12, 1870 he married Margaretta Cameron, d/o Gen. Simon Cameron and Margaretta (Brua) of Harrisburg. Children; Donald Cameron, Eliza Ewing and Richard of Pittsburg, An older brother of Mr. Haldeman, Jacob Samils Haldeman, was at one time a member of the State Senate, and was later sent as US Minister to Sweden.
