    3. Rhodes, Thomas W.-Monroe County Rhodes family were early settlers of Monroe Co., are of German origin. Their ancestors emigrted to America prior to the Rev. The great-grandfather of Thomas W. was killed at the battle of Brandywine, which is all that is known of him. His son, Jacob Rhodes was born near Bethlehem, married and reared a large faimly. Adam, the 2nd son of Jacob, was born near Bethlehem in 1797. He married Catharine "Beasecker", was also born near Bethlehem. He died at the home of his son Jacob, in Stroud township, in 1846. His wife survived him until Feb 1864, aged 86. Members of the Lutheran Church. Children; Adam, Nancy, Abraham, John, Leah, Thomas W., Rachel, Jacob and Eliza. Thomas W., was born in Hamilton township, Aug 10, 1811. On 14 Jan 1846 he married Mary Anna Heller, d/o Solomon and Mary (Benninger) Heller.She was born March 5, 1818. Children; Sydenham, born 1837, Charles L., May 23, 1839, Merion W. 1841, Edward J., 1845, George H., 1847, died 1881, Martha S., 1849, and Johnson G., 1851. Mrs. Rhodes died Jan 3, 1853. Mr. Rhodes married 2nd to Katharine Keller, d/o Peter and Elizabeth (Heller) Keller. She was born Dec 24, 1822. Children; Stewart T., born June 3, 1854, Erwin, 1856, Mary M. and Jennie born April 10, 1860, Emma C., born 1863, and Millard, born 1866. Joseph Keller, Mrs. Rhodes' second grandfather, married Mary Andrews, who bore him children; Adam, Leonard, Jacob, John, Joseph, George, Henry, Peter, Elizabeth, Sarah, and Mary. Peter married Ellen Heller. He died Sept. 20, 1878. Member of the German Reformed Church. Children; Catharine, Daniel, Charles, Mary Ann, Joseph, Lewis, Louisa, Sarah, William and Theodore. Early Burial Places. The earliest burial place in the township was the Keller burial-ground, located on the Keller farm. Buried there, Shlects, Brewers, Peter De la Grue, a Frenchman and the Felkers. In 1936 a survey of the grounds indicated that there were about 20 graves but only 3 legible markers, all inscribed in German.The only tombstones listed in 1936 report were Jacob Schlechi, 1750-1812, and his wife Catharine, no dates and Joseph Keller, 1751-1822. By 1990 no signs of grave-yard esisted. Joseph Keller, s/o Joseph and Marie (Drum) Keller, who arrived from Zweibrucken in 1738 at Baltimore, was captured by Indians in his youth in 1757 and was taken to Montreal, Canada. He was released around 1764, served in the Rev., and settled in Stroud township The German Reformed Church, which was erected in 1828. The first interment was that of Wm. Azer, which followed by Morris Heller. The Kellers, Fredericks, Hohmshields, Felkers, Hellers, Rhodeses, Myerses are buried here. Kellers Church, aka German Reformed Church, Salem Reformed, Peter Heller's grave-yard. Some burials, Brotzman, Chamberlin, Drake, Fellencer/Fellenser, Featherman, Frederick, Gress, Heller, Hinton, Hohenschildt, Houser, Keller, Rhodes, Shook, and Swink Assessment Roll 1820, included Anthony Heller, Solomon Heller, Joseph Keller, Peter Keller, John Keller, Charles Miller, Samuel Row, Moses Philip, Samuel Phillips, Daniel Schlet, Elias Ott. Single freeman, James Miller. Phillip Bossard, who emigrated from Alsace, Germany, settled on the property known in the family homestead, in 1755, where he resided until his death. Among his sons was Melchior, to whom this property, embracing 250 acres, was deeded in 1790. His chilren; Peter, Andrew, Christoper and George, all of whom, with the exception of Peter moved to NY. The latter married Margaret Kern and they had 9 children, of whom Samuel, Peter, Catharine Ruth, now (1886) live in Hamiton township Thomas McFall McIlhaney of Monroe Co., born in Lower Mr. Bethel, May 13,1823, son of William. In 1845 he located to Snydersville, and in 1847 he moved to Tannersville. He married Aug 15, 1846 to Catharine M. d/o James C. and Hester (Bitters) Major, of Northampton Co. Children; Georgiana, the wife of Edward Baltz of Stroudsburg, Fanny, the wife of William Long, of Williamsport, Flora, wife of William Rafferty of Brooklyn, NY, Clara, the wife of Dr. William Wolf, of Chatham, NJ, Ella and Gussie McIlhany. Amandus Ott Greenwald, was born in Greenwich township, Berks Co. On Aug 26,1867, he married Lorraine L., d/o Solomon and Louisa (Gangwer) Bieber of Allentown and they had 4 daugthers, Mary, Blanche, Martha, and Betsey. E. Strousburg, Burgress in 1884, Joseph Bossard Knights and Ladies of the Golden Star,A.K. Miller, John Bossard, Frank Miller, Joseph Bossard. Michael Ransberry, s/o Henry and Sarah (Bowman) was born at Berwick, PA, in 1867 he settled in E. Stroudsburg, He married 1st to Katharine Overpeck, who died May 6, 1846, they had one child, who died. He married 2nd to Sarah Rowe, who was born July 5, 1840, the d/o Peter (1806-85) and Susan (Foust) Rowe (1806-75). Peter Rowe children; Catharine, wife of Adam Brotzman, of Sus. Co., Jacob who died in 1873. Phillip of Millar, Nebraska, Elizabeth who married Amos Lee, Peter, died in 1875, Sarah wife of subject, Hannah, wife of Charles Dibble, of Wyoming Co, Mary, wife of Caleb Walter of Middle Smithfield, Lydia, wife of John Custer of Stroudsburg, Henry Rowe, father of Peter Rowe, married Catharine Benninger in 1804, by whom he had children; Jacob, Peter, Susan, Daniel, Mary, Margaret, John of Wyoming Co., Charles of Hawley, William, and Joseph, both resided in Wisconsin, Katie, twin of Henry, is the wife of Austin Black,of Spencer, MD Best Wishes, Geri
