His paternal grandfather was Philip Dech, a native of Lehigh counry. His father, William J. was born in 1796. He married Lydia Cuder, d/o John, they had a family of 9 children, two died young. Children, Henry, of Lehigh county, Benjamin, of Salington, Willam J., James, of Castasauqua, Sallie, wife of James Gochenbach. William J., married Catharine Marshall, d/o Joseph and Maria. In 1886 he located in Schuylkill county. He was a Cilvil war vet (Company B. MD Vols.and re-enlisted 199th PA Vols) he was a prisnor of war and held for 48 hours and was exchanged. His grandfather, Andrew Dech was born in this county, though his ancestors were German.
