Altman, John C. of Irwin, traces his ancestry to William Altman, who came from Alsace-Loraine, to VA. Later accompained by his wife , who was a Miss Sholl and the eldest child, David, then 3 weeks old, moved to Westmoreland Co., PA. Their family consisted of three sons, David, William, John and 5 daughters. Christian, the third son of David and Susanna, was born Feb 16, 1801. He married Barbara Sholl, born April 25 1806, d/o John and Magdalena (Cose) and granddaughter of Jacob and Barbara Sholl. John Sholl died in 1816 and his wife died in 1806. They were the parents of four children, Jacob, John, Elizabeth, and Barbara. Children of Christian and Barbara; David A. born 1825, he married Lydia Stough and had nine children. May married Jacob Buzzard and they had three children. Anna Catharine, born 1829, married John Shotts and they had ten children. Susanna, born 1831 married Jacob Erret and they had four children. John C. Lucinda Errett born 1836, married 1st James Errett and had five children, 2nd Michael Baker and they had two children. Jacob S., born 1841, married Sarah Keener and they had five children. Barbara Eleanor, 1844, married J. L. Kunkle and they had four children. Elizabeth, 1848 married William Staymates and they had two children. Christian C., born March 30, 1846, married Elizabeth Allshouse and had two children. Cordelia, 1850, married Alexander Harding and they had two children. John C. Altman, born Jan 16, 1834.
