    1. [PANORTHA] James Lockart Administration Papers 1844
    2. Hi everyone! I?m searching for the father of Ephraim Lockard, who was born in Northampton County in 1799. I wasn?t able to find anything searching online, so I decided to order the estate files for the Lockards that had sons of the right age in the 1800 and 1810 Census. I recently received the Administration Papers of James Lockart, who died in 1844 in Lower Mount Bethel without a will. Ephraim appears as one of the signers. John Flick was the administrator of the estate, but Ephraim also singed the document and is named on the first page along with John Flick. I was wondering if people think this is a pretty good sign that James was the father of Ephraim. Thanks! ~Michael Messinger~

    3. Michael, Sometimes the Orphans Court proceedings have interesting background information. I live near Easton, so I checked the OC records for James Lockhart. Unfortunately, there was nothing that sheds light on your question. However, there was mention of James' debts to other Lockharts (Alex, Ephraim, William and John M.). Buyers at the sale of James' personal property included his widow and Alex, Ephraim, John and William Lockhart. Sale of his personal property did not cover his debts, so Jamess' land was also sold, to Philip Schoch. The recitation of metes and bounds in the deed (Book D7, page 148) includes Samuel and Thomas Lockhart as nieghbors.
