what a good question. the village of bartonsville was named after major joseph barton (this is from commemorative biographical record.) leonrad hardenbergh was born july 31, 1846, married mary brodhead, eldest dau. of capt luke brodhead, of the rev. descendant of capt. daniel brodhead. children of leonrad and daniel. elizabeth, john, rachel, henry and george harrison, he was born 1807 at marbletown,ulster co. n.y , died at hawley, jan. 18, 1879,. he married at bartonsville, 1831 to harriet, d/o major joseph barton. major barton was born at sussex co. n.j. of english parentage in 1781, and died at honesdale, wayne co., pa. in 1848. he married rebecca yard, who died in washington, n.j. in 1826, age 36. children; charlotte, caroline, cassandra, harriet, john robinson, sarah anne, matilda hughes, and joseph jr. after the death of his wf. major barton moved to the villiage of bartonsville, monroe co., pa., which was named after him. he moved to honesdale. he married eliza, youngest dau of elisabeth harrison and capt. luke brodhead. harriet barton was born march 11, 1812 at washington, n.j. died at hawley, july 28, 1868, she married george h. hardenbergh. children; anna elizabeth, john, leonad, and wily j. died in infancy and early childhood, mary elisabeth, died at 18, joseph, civil war, franklin harmon,, charles harrison, sara louise and edmund burnham this book was written in 1900-by j. c. beers-chicago. now there was an elisha barton in mt. bethel in 1773 rev. war vets-burials barton elisha-barton fam. yard, hunterdon, n.j. elisha, rosemont cem. bloomsburg, pa barton-rev. war-pensions barton john, S1164, n.j. line, applied 1833 in fayette co., ky. age 77. born 21 dec 1755 lived in hunterdon co., n.j. william, n.j. no papers Best Wishes, Geri
