lehigh co. history josiah cole, subject. heinrich kohl, the ancestor of josiah, who was a merchant at slantington for 17 years, and was interested in the mfg of umbrella handles since "1912", was born sept. 28, 1732, in the palatinate, germany, came to america, settled in allen twp. he married christina althaus and they had 8 children; henry, adam,peter, john, mary, christinna, susan and catharine. they were members of the zion ch. at kreidersville. he died march 2, 1827 john cole, youngest son of heinrich, was born in allen twp. april 12, 1790. he died april 22, 1883 age 93. he married barbara houser, d/o christian. they had 8 children; eliza, henry, reuben, charles, john, matilda, and susan. members of zion ref. ch. henry cole, eldest son of john, was born in allen twp. he died age 95. march 13, "1912" and was buried at Zions charles cole, 3rd son of john, was born in allen twp in 1822. he married sophia mack and they had 8 children, samuel, sarah, amanda, marietta, magdalena, josiah, ida, and frank. members of zion ref. ch. josiah cole, 2nd son of charles, was born jan. 15, 1859, near kreidersville . on dec. 24, 1882 he married isabella c. acker, d/o jonas and matilda (dornblaser) acker of schncksville and had 4 children; helen, 1886, died 1887, charles f., 1888, walter j., 1891, graduate from slanington high school, and studied art and graduated from phila, museum of art in 1913, ray, 1895. members of st. john's ref. ch.
