    2. The following information is from the "History of Ischua, New York" by Sally Squire Pettengill: Several families from Northampton County (now Monroe County) migrated to Cattaraugus County, New York in the 1820's, among them were Conrad, Learn, Frantz, Flyte, Shafer, Young, Miller and Raub families. In 1823 Peter Frantz arrived in Cattaraugus County. Johannes Peter Frantz was born October 14th, 1783, and was baptized at the Hamilton Church. His parents were Jacob and Susannah Conrad Frantz, and the sponsors at his baptism were his maternal grandparents, Peter and Veronica Heller Conrad, who were also the parents of John and Henry Conrad. Peter's wife, Margaret Silvius Frantz, was born about 1786 and died before 1865. They had eight children: Margaret, also known as Fanny, who married Thomas Lockwood; Edward, Linford, and Sarah, who married Amasa J. Wilbur. Elias may have been another son. Three of the above children were born in Lower Smithfield, PA. The family apparently moved there from the Hamilton area before going to Cattaraugus County. There is more information on the above families in this book. Judy

    3. I have seen so much on this list about the FRANTZ (and derivatives) name; it is my understanding that that was the maiden name of my great-grandmother, Barbara, who m. Adam BECHTOLD in about 1865. I believe the parents of both came from Germany--but I don't know when. Everything I have indicates they only lived in NewYork-New Jersey, but now I'm wondering if they (or Barbara's parents) actually lived in Pennsylvania. Does anyone recognize any of these names?
