My hubby is an Allentown Ritter and we have been working on his family history. I have a few names Id like to find land records for. We have only been able to get back to Charles Ritter b. July 14, 1803 who married Catherine Schneider in 1825. He died May 22, 1878 in Nazareth. Joseph Ritter served in Company A, 153rd Pa. Vol. He received a gun shot wound in his right leg at Gettysburg. He received an $8.00/month pension. Joseph has a flat marble headstone in the east section, lot#54 of the St. John's Union Cem, Nazareth. Newspaper Obituary found at the Whitefield House, Nazareth, Pa. (Newspaper unknown dated 6 Apr.1920) Joseph Ritter, a veteran of the Civil War, and father of county commissioners' clerk Robert E. Ritter, of Tatamy, died at 11:30 o'clock on Saturday night at his home, South Main Street, Nazareth, aged 76 years. He had suffered an attack of pleurisy last Monday and his condition became steadily worse. Deceased served for nine months in the Civil War as a member of Co. A, 153rd Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteers. He was wounded in the battle of Gettysburg. He was a son of the long deceased Mr. and Mrs. Charles Ritter, and resided practically all his life in Nazareth. His wife died some years ago. Mr. Ritter was a huckster for a number of years. He is survived by three sons, Robt. E. Ritter, of Tatamy, Charles Ritter, of Allentown and James L. Ritter of Nazareth, also by two sisters, Mrs. Eliza Miller and Mrs. Henry Youngkin, both of Easton. The funeral will be held from the home of his son, James L. Ritter, Nazareth, on Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. with interment in St. John's cemetery, Nazareth.
