    3. Shiffer-Northumberland County Charles Shiffer, of Sunbury, was born Dec 8, 1847,at Effort, Monroe county, son of Abraham and grandson of Conrad. Conrad Shiffer lived at Brodheadsville, Monroe County. Children; George, Conrad,Charles, Jacob, Abraham,John and Sally Ann, who married John Kresge. Abraham Shiffer, was born May 18, 1823, and died May 5, 1892. He lived at Brodheadsville, he was a member of the Reformed Church. He was married to Julian "Searfos", d/o William, she was born in 1829 and died Feb. 1881, they had a son, Charles. Charles Shiffer married in 1871 to Savanna Williams, d/o Jacob and Hannah ("Workheiser")Williams, who then lived at Gouldsboro, then Luzerne now Lackawanna county. They had two children, Hubert F., Jamison City, Columbia County, married Esther Sutliff and had one child (La Rue). Raymond, manger of the Western Union Telegraph Company at Sunbury. LaBar, George, grandfather, in 1829 he settled in Middle Smithfield township. He lived to be 112 years old, dying in 1874. Children; John, Hugh, David, Mary, the wife of Thomas Transue, Julia, the wife of William Kramer, Susan, the wife of John Vanvliet, and Catharine, the wife of Henry Cook. David LaBar, was born in Aug., 1810, Northampton County, he married Sallie Staples. David died Sept. 21, 1897. Member of the M.E. Church. Children;1. David,married Cathrine Halterman, d/o Adam and Mary Halterman.(children of David and Catherine, Adam H., Lewis G., Sarah A., David L., Mary A., Nelson D.) 2. Amanda E., the wife of Depuy Detrick, 3. Mary E.,the wife of Benjamin Transue,(children, Flora E., married Charles Lander, David L., Alice and Susan). 4. Sarah E., married John Trible (children Harry, Charles, Sylvanus and Amanda), and Edmund V. LaBar, Henry, (subject) was born Nov 14, 1840, Wyoming, Luzerne county. His grandparent, Jacob and Margaret (Fox) LaBar, were born in Monroe county.The grandfather was a wagon maker; the greater part of his life was spent in Luzerne county, where he died. Charles LaBar was a native of Luzerne county. He married Mrs. Matilda (Thompson) LaBar, d/o Isaac and Maria (Wilcox) Thompson. Children; Sylvanus, died in 1848, Henry (subject), James D., of NY, Mary J., married George Brown, Maria married Benjamin Tripp, Francis, Matilda, married George Wildenberger, of Wayne county, Jacob, William, died in infancy, and Charles. Soldier died 16 Feb 1846. In 1854 a John LaBar was the only child of the soldier. Henry, PA Line, soldier was born 15 April 1755 at Easton, and he was living with his father (no named) at Lancaster at enlistment. In the spring of 1778 he moved to NY. In 1834 soldier's brother Malakiah LaBar was aged 82 a resident of Ithaca, NY Melekiah, PA Line, soldier enlisted at Middle Smithfield, Northampton Co, applied 1818 in Tompkins, NY.
