Northumberland Co. History Schell, John, s/o Frederick and Catharine (Derr) Shell, was born in Germany, Oct 29, 1819. Their son Charles, married Laura Wagner and they had children, (Pearl, who married William Osmer, Flora, and Andrew C., who after his mother's death was reared by his aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Shell). Masser, Jacob, son of Johannes, married Catharine Christ, who was born Oct 14, 1816, d/o Jonathan Christ and his wife Maria (Hepler), and the sister of Emanuel Christ (1794-1831). Mrs. Masser died Dec 15, 1890, the mother of 14 children. Jacob B. Masser, son of Jacob, was born June 8, 1838, just across the Northumberland line in Schuylkill county. He married Catharine Wagner, d/o Jacob and Elizabeth (Haas) Wagner, granddaughter of Jacob Wagner, great-granddaughter of Jacob Wagner (July 6, 1725-Nov 30, 1802), and his wife Lovina ( March 1, 1736-July 1, 1827). Three children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Masser; Richard, Nora, who married Moses Trautman, and Monroe. Hon. Simon P. Wolverton, (subject) was born in Rush township, Jan 28, 1837, s/o Joseph and Charity (Kase) Wolverton, and on the paternal side is English Quaker. According to well authenticated tradition three brothers emigrated from Wolverhampton, England abotu 1700 and settled on Long Island. Of the three brothers who originaly came to this county Charles Wolverton, the lineal ancestor of Simon, in 1714 moved to Hunterdon County, NJ, where the family resided from several generation. Charles Wolverton, a descendant of Charles, who was one of the original immigrants, was the great-grandfather of Simon P. He served in the Rev. He owned a large tract of land in Hunterdon which he granted to his son, Isaac, on Feb 12, 1816. Isaac, was born in Hunterdon County, NJ, Aug 11,1777, and came in 1800 with his father to Northumberland county. The father died in Augusta township, as did the son, who passed away 1855. Isaac was a member of the Baptist church, he married Lucretia Chamberlain and reared of family of 5 children, two sons, and three daughters. Joseph, son of Isaac, and father of Simon, was born in Augusta township, Sept 23, 1803, and died in Sunbury in the eighties. He was a Baptist. He married Charity Kase, d/o William. The family of Joseph and Charity consisted of two sons and three daughters. Simon P.,(died Oct 25, 1910), married on March 23, 1865 to Elizabeth D. Hendricks, d/o Benjamin Hendricks of Sunbury. They had three children, Mary, the wife of Biddle Arthurs of Pittsburg, Elizabeth K., and Simon P. Jr. The family belonged to the Presbyterian Church I. John Mifflin, was born 1638 in Warminster, Wiltshire, England, he came to America with his John in 1676 II. John Mifflin,born 1661, s/o John, married Elizabeth Hardy. III. Edward Mifflin, was born in 1685, he moved to Accomac county, VA. He married Mary Eyre, d/o Daniel and Ann (Neech) Eyre of Northampton county, VA IV. Daniel Mifflin, of Accomac county, son of Edward, was born in 1722 and died 1795. He married 1st to Mary Warner, and they had, Warner, Edward, Anna,Sarah, and Daniel, who married Deborah Howell. By his 2nd marriage he 9 children, Walker, Mary, Ann, Elizabeth, Sarah, Eyre, Rebecca, Patience, and Elizabety2 V. Warner Mifflin, son of Daniel, born in 1745, died 1798, married 1st in Phila., PA was to E.izabeth Johns, children; Mary, Elizabeth, Elizabeth2, married Clayton Cowgill in 1792, Sarah, married Warner Rasin, of MD., in 1795, Warner, Susanna, married John Cowgill, of Little Creek, Hannah, Sarah, married Daniel Neall of Phila., in 1819. By his second marriage which also took place at Phila., to Ann Emlen, children; Samuel E., Lemuel and Mary Ann VI. Warner Mifflin, s/o Warner, born 4/6/1777 married Sarah Ann Newlin, d/o Thomas, of Chester county. He married 2nd to Elizabeth Lawas, d/o Samuel and Elizabetth (John) Laws Rebuck, Samuel, son of John, was born June 17, 1810, died March 30, 1882, he is buried at the Salem Refored Church. He married _____ Brosius, who was born Mach 5,1809 anded Feb. 23, 1894. Children; Rosina, who married William Heim, Lydia, married Elias Ochs, Mary,died unmarried, John, married Elizabeth Ossma, Samuel, married Lovina Kehdres, Elias F., Polly, married Daniel Schlegel, Kate, married Nathan Steely, and Amelia married William Kutz.
