Mark Ely, 9th child of George and Sarah (McGill) Ely, was born Sept 18, 1781. He married 1st to,June 2, 1802, Hannah Johnson and they had 3 daughters. 2nd to Rachel Hambleton, born May 31, 1787 died Aug 21, 1878, d/o James and Elizabeth (Paxton) Hambleton of Solesbury, later of Drumore, Lancaster county, granddaughter of Stephen and Hannah (Paxton) Hambleton. Great-grandfather of James and Mary (Beakes) Hambleton of Solebury in the early part of the 18th century from Maryland where his ancestors who had resided for two or three generations. Hannah wife of Stephen Hamblton, born Dec 28,1732 and died Nov 1, 1812, d/o William and Abigail (Pownal) Paxson; and Elizabeth, the wife of James Hambleton, was a daughter of Henry and Elizabeth (Lupton) Paxson and granddaughter of Henry and Anna Plumly Paxson, the latter being a brother to William before memtioned, and both sons of James and Jane Paxson, who came from England in 1682. Mary Beaks, wife of James Hambleton, was a daughter of Stephen and Elizabeth (Biles) Beaks, both of whom were natives of England, the former bor April 28, 1665, in Blackwell, Somerset, England, son of William and Mary (Walls) Beakes, came to PA with his parents in 1682, and died 1699. Both he and his father were members of the colonial assembly. His wife, Elizabeth was born in Dorchester, England, June 3, 1670, was the daughter of William and Johana Biles, who came to Bucks Co. Of the 3 daughters of Mark and Hannah (Johnson) Ely, one married __ Hall, Rachel, married Amos Paxson, Rachel, married 1st to Joseph Lownes, 2nd to Samuel Cooper, having serveral children by her 1st marriage, and one (Mrs. Rachel Pidcock, of New Hope) by the second.
