Keefer Family The progenitor of this family came from Germany at an early day. We find several of the name in Berks Co and Northampton Co., in 1790, one of whom was named George, who was born April 27, 1765. and died June 5, 1833, at Kriedersville, or Stone Church, Northampton Co. We also found record of Magdalena Keefer, born Jan 20, 1763, and died March 29, 1840 Elias Keefer, a native of Northampton Co, was a soldier in the War of 1812. He married Lydia Solt. Children; Elizabeth, marriedLouis Guttendake, George, John, Joseph, Samuel, and William Joseph Keefer, was born April 9, 1844 in Allen township. He married in 1866 to Mary Kleckner, d/o William and Clarissa Kleckner, of Lehigh County, born near Egypt, Aug 24, 1845. Children; John H., Joseph E., Samuel L., George W., born Sept 7, 1866, married Ida Woodring, Sarah A. born 1868, married Rev. A. J. L. Breinig, Mary A., born 1873, married David Linderman. Mr. and Mrs. Keefer also had an adopted son Alfred, born Aug 3, 1882. George W. Keefer, son of Joseph and Mary, was born Sept 7, 1860, in 1885 he married Ida M. Wotring. Children;Florence T. born 1886. Joseph F. born 1889 a graduate of Whitehall township, and Franklin and Marshall Academy, Alice C., William E. born 1896, Bessie M. born 1900. Members of the Reformed Church at Egypt. Berks Co Jacob Kieffer, grandfather, lived in Richland township, married Annie Sell. Children; Peter, Rebecca, wife of Johannes Bieber, and Valentine. Valentine, of Richmond township, he married Maria Merkel, of Richmond, d/o Benjamin and Catharine (Sheridan) Merkel. Children; Sarah, wife Abner Hoch, Andora, wife of Frank Schaeffer, Lewis M., Alvin J., of Reading, George A., of Reading, Laura , died age 10, Emma who married Levi Rhode of Lyons, Charles D. of Reading, Ella married Harry Herbine of Exter, and Valentine of Reading. Lewis M., married July 9, 1887 to Mary E.D. Schlegel, d/o Abraham and Annie (Deysher) Schlegel of Richmond. Children; Nora E., Lloyd R., F. Geneva, Paul A. and Oliver E. Kieffer. E. C. MD., was born Nov 8, 1873, at Hagerstown, MD, s/o Samuel and Mary Jane (Zemtmyer) Kieffer. He married Ella G. Missly and they had one child, Mary Isabel. Best Wishes, Geri
