Kieffer, John B. Ph.D, of Franklin and Marshall College. Rev. Ephraim Kieffer, father of John B., was the son of Joseph Kieffer, who was the son of Abraham Kieffer, who was the son of Dewald Kieffer, of Kettenheim, Germany, The progenitor of this branch of the family came to the shores of America, in the ship "Two Brothers". He settled in Berks County, and his grandson, Dr. Kieffer's great-grandfather, Abraham Kieffer, after serving two or three terms of enlistment in the REv. Army, located in Franklin Co., and left behind him seven sons and seven daughters. It is said, however the Kieffer were originally French, and not German, and that during the Huguenot troubles in France a Michael Tonelliers was driven from that county and settled in Germany. The better to conceal his idenity he transformed his name to Kieffer, and marrying a German woman, became the ancestor of all Kieffers in America. The named has various speling, such as Kiefer, Kieffer, Keefer, Kifer, Kuever and possibly Cuvier. Rev. Ephraim Kieffer married Eleanor Spangler, only daughter of Martin Spangler, of York, PA. She died in Mifflinburg,in 1847 leaving six children. Of these one died in infancy, Hannah M., Corneilus, John B., Rev. J. Spangler, D.D., for more than 30 years was the pastor of the Reformed Church of Hagerstown, MD., Mrs. Lydia J. Furst, of Ceadar Spring, PA., Rev. Henry M. D.D. the pastor of the Reformed Church at Easton, Northampton County., and author of the "Recollections of a Drummer Boy" Dr. John B. Kieffr, was born in Bellefonte, PA, Oct 20, 1839. Married in 1878 to Miss L.M. B. Troupe, then of Mercersburg, and formerly of Clear Springs,MD, d/o Joseh and Sarah (Cushwa) Troupe. They had one child, Josephine B., member of the class of 1902, of Bryn Mawr College. Rev. War (pension) Kiefer, Andrew, wife Margaret Jacob. former widow, PA Line. Soldier was killed at the battle of Long Island on 27 Aug 1776. Soldier had married Margaret Eckert (no date) after soldier was killed she married Jacob Jacoby and widow died about 1834. Soldier's son, Andrew applied 2 Sept 1854 Northampton Co (he was the only son of soldier and widow and was born after soldier went into service) widow's son John Peter Jacoby was aged 71 in 1854 a resident of Northampton Co.
