Hello, List! Having seen, and read through them all, many postings on these surnames, I am hoping maybe someone here can help us or point us in the direction of someone who can. I am a descendant of the earliest known Swank in Westmoreland County. John Swank is found in the 1800 census of Washington Township, Westmoreland County, and he is my third great grandfather. Probably the most famous descendant of John was his grandson, James Moore Swank, long time secretary of the American Iron and Steel Association. I have seen on this list the comment shown in at least one of John Boucher's books that says John Swank came from Franklin County with family first in Montgomery County. We thought we went back to that family, but could never find a trail. So what am I doing on the Northampton County list? We have recently received results of my brother's DNA testing which shows we have no connection to the Montgomery County Schwenks of Hans Michael Schwenk who came to Philadelphia on the Lydia in 1741. What they did show, by a match of 35 and 36 out of 37 alleles, was a relationship to descendants of Michael Swink, who was in North Carolina no later than 1771, and Adam Schwenk (Michael's brother) who died c.1775 in Northampton County. Adam is believed to be the Adam Schwinki (age 18) who came to Philadelphia on the Jamaica Galley in 1739. On the same ship was another Hans Michael Schwinki (age 50) who may well have been Adam's father, but we have no proof of that. Both signed their own names, and their signatures are quite similar. Adam had three children that we know of, all baptized at St. Paul's "Blue" Lutheran and Reformed Church in what is now Upper Saucon Township, Lehigh County. They were: (1) Anne Elisabeth, b. 25 Jan 1757, baptismal sponsors Johannes Schwenk and Anne Elisabeth Schilpin (Schilp) (2) Johannes, b. 2 Jan 1759, baptismal sponsor Johannes Rohn (3) Anna Maria, b. 15 Nov 1760, baptismal sponsors Michael Schweng and wife Anna Maria We know Adam's brother, Michael, became guardian of Adam's children after Adam's death, and we know Johannes (Adam's son) went to NC and served there in the Revolution. We do not believe that Michael Schweng and wife, Anna Maria, are Adam's brother and his wife as brother Michael was married to a Mary Elizabeth Unknown. Does anyone know anything about Johannes Schwenk, sponsor in 1757 or about Michael Schweng and wife, Anna Maria, sponsors in 1760? We know our John Swank in Westmoreland is NOT the son of either Adam or Michael, but may be the son of a brother to Adam and Michael. Any help of any kind is greatly appreciated! Mary Lou

Hello All, I hope this is the right list to ask this. I need some guidance to figure something out. I would like a paper copy of the 1776 Lackaway District Tax List. Which microfilm from Salt Lake City (LDS) do I need to send off for to receive the 1776 Tax List for Lackaway District? I located on the internet a reference to a 1776 Tax List for a Lackaway District that has a Zebulon Parish and Stephen Parish listed.
