----- Original Message ----- From: Marjorie Erlebach To: PANORTHA-L-@rootsweb.com Sent: Friday, July 25, 2003 11:39 AM Subject: James Brown Is anyone researching the Brown Family, starting with James Brown born 2 November 1716 in England (WHERE?) There was a book written by John Jordan Brown of Bloomsburg, Pa. in 1922. He stated that he had the genealogy in England and even had the Coat of Arms, but he neglected to put them in his book. There was also a bible. Do you know anything about him, Geri? Marjorie
Hi, there were Longs from Northampton that went to Monroe. William Long, son of William and Mary (Armstrong) Long, born Oct 10, 1810, both natives of Northampton Co, and grandson of John Long who was an officer in the Rev. War also a native of Northampton county. He served with his son Peter in the War of 1812. Peter Long participated in the battle of Lundy's Lane, and there seriously wounded, a ball striking him in the forehead. He was thought to be killed, one of the soldiers remarking that the best man in the Regt., was gone. On coming to he crawled on his hand and knees to a long pile of rails, behind which he hid himself for a long time. When he emerged from his hiding place he was seen by a British Officer, and on asking for quater he was promised protection and an escort to camp if he would surrender. On the way to camp the officer asked for his name, and what part he came from. Finding his name was Long, he asked him if he had any brothers, and what their names were, on receiving the information said; Do you know we are brothers?" The ball did not penetrate his skull, passing between the skin and bone to back of the head, and he carried it a number of years, finally going to a hospital and having it removed. John Long, the grandfather, had the following; John, who went to Canada and died unmarried; William; Daniel, of Northampton county, then moved to Wilkesbarre, where he died leaving a family; Henry, who was killed by the Indians; Abram, who married and lived in Northampton county; Katie who married a Mr. Rundels of Wayne County; Sallie who married James Goodwin; Peggy married Thomas Bush and settled in Paradise, Monroe county; Betsy, who married William Staples, settled in Stroud township; Peter; Joseph, the brother he met a Lundy's Lane, who had early gone to Canada. Is this the family? There so many Long-Lang faimlies is isn't funny. Best Wishes, Geri

I stand corrected from the last email. I have just found Julia and Harry (JOHN ETHERINGTON) on the 1900 census. There was one spelling of the name ETHERINGTON that I did not check: EDRINGTON. His name was John on the census. After all of these years I finally found them! They were in Pittsburgh. Now I have to wonder what took them to Northampton County, PA??? Who did Julia Caroline O'Brien ETHERINGTON marry and did she stay in Northampton County, PA? 1900 census (EDRINGTON): John ETHERINGTON born in 1869 in England, came to US in 1892 Julia born in 1872 in England, came to US in 1892 Ellen (Margaret) born in 1892 in PA Sarah born 1894 in PA Harry born in 1896 in PA John born in 1897 in PA Do you know of this family? Hello, I am in search of Julia Caroline O'BRIEN-ETHERINGTON. Born 1873 in England. She came to US approximately 1883. Her parents are unknown to me at this time. She married Harry ETHERINGTON probably around 1891 or so. Harry died prior to 1910. The known children were John, Margaret (b. 1892, also known as Nellie), William (b. abt. 1896), and Sarah Anne (b. 1894). In 1910, Julia and son William were in Northampton, South Bethlehem, PA., enumeration district #0118. Only three of her children were alive at the time of the 1910 census (Margaret, Sarah and William). I have been told by a great aunt that Julia married 3 times, the first being to Harry ETHERINGTON. This aunt also thought that one of her husbands surname was something like HORNEST/HORNST. The other husband is unknown altogether. I would love to hear from you if you know of this family. I've been stuck for years. I can NOT find them anywhere on the 1900 census. I've tried every different spelling for ETHERINGTON that I can think of. Thanks much! Jo Dee Frasco JONICK5029@aol.com
