I have found tax lists for Williams Township, Northampton County, on microfilm rolls #2593, #2594 and #2595 at the Pennsylvania State Archives in Harrisburg. The 1767 list is on roll #2593. I do not know which other townships are listed on these rolls. --Jeff McGuire on 9/24/03 11:47 AM, Lee M. at lemen@x25.net wrote: > I would like to see a list of "All Taxpayers" of Northampton county for > similar time periods. I would like to see a list of "All Taxpayers" of Northampton county for similar time periods. It seems to be very difficult to get much information from the County at large. It was sub-divided often and thngs are hard to locate even when it is known that certain persons paid taxes on land in certain townships. Finding the information seem more by accident than intent. For example. Are tax records for Penn township, Northampton Co., in 1785, now located in West Penn township, Schuylkill, County??? If not there, where?? I heard a speaker last evening discuss the history of the Orphan Train, where children (most, but not all, orphans), living in Boston and New York City, were loaded up on trains and taken to towns in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan and on to the West. Upon arrival, the children were lined up and shown to local families, who might either adopt them or indenture them as servants. If not selected, they rode on to the next town. In the process, children could be separated from siblings, and most lost touch with any remaining family. This occurred from 1854 through 1927. The speaker was Al Eicher, and his organization is Program Source International. He was personally inspired to begin this research, as his grandmother was separated from her brother for 45 years, as a result of this policy. He is trying to contact descendants of Orphan Train riders to add to the history already reseached. Ann Garvin Michigan

My grandmother was Mary (Mayme/Mamie) WENNER, b 1871 or 1872 and her father Thomas J. WENNER, born ~1838. The only children I can find for Thomas are Mary (grandmother) and Edward. (It's been very frustrating trying to find any connection with anyone doing research.) They lived in Luzerne (Hazleton) and Milton, in Northumberland County. Any possible connection? Ancestry.com photographed it out-of-focus, so you'd have to find another source. The next page shows it's in ward 38, on April 2, 1930, and the index shows who of the same surname live there. No way to tell if anyone of a different surname was in the household.
