    3. Berks County History-Berk. Berck, or Berg Family. The pioneer members of this family were Henry and Ludwig Berck, probably brothers, who located in Greenwich township. In 1759 the former paid 4 pounds in tax. In 1774 the taxable list of Greenwich township records the name of Herny Berck and Peter Berck. It appears that Ludwig had already died. The federal census records the following. Peter Berck who had a son under 16, a wife and 3 daughters. Geoge Berck, married but no children. In 1811 John Berk was a taxable of Greenwich. The Berks were among the Huguenot families . David Berk, who died in Greenwhick in 1871, was survived by his wife Hannah and sons David and Nathan, his will is on record Book 12, page 354 Daniel Berck, (as his name is spelled on this tombstone), grandfather of Henry, was born July 27, 1796 and died March 6, 1871. His wife was Sarah Billman, born Oct 12, 1793 and died May 28, 1869. They had 7 children and at their deaths 29 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Among their children, Johan, Reuben, born 1821, married Lovina Kneppper, who died in 1857, Daniel B. born 1825m dued 1884, lived in Albany township, Salome married Jacob Reinhart. Johan Berk, father of Henry was born in Albany township, June 5, 1818, died March 30, 1883, and is buried at New Bethel Church. He married Lydia Wessner, born May 27, 1817, d/o Johannes Wessner, she died May 8, 1882. Eight children were born Elias, Daniel of Schuylkill County, Finna marrid to David Komp, John of West Penn, Adam, married Sarah J. Merkel, she died in 1888, d/o Abraham and Leah (Folweiler) Merkel Wessner, Jerry M. is descened from Johannes Wessner, the emigrant of the Wessner family in Albany township, where he settled between 1760 and 1775. He was a native of Germany, arriving in PA about 1752. Jerusalem Church records show that he was born May 8, 1723, and died Aug 23, 1794. He is buried near the old school-house in the graveyard at Wessnersville. Nothing is stated concerning his family except that his son was named Mathias or Mathes Mathias Wessner (according to the tombstone inscription "Mathes Wessner". was born Aug 1, 1757 and deid Dec 26, 1821. He married Catharine Schollenberger who was born in 1772, and died in 1838, leaving, among other children who names do not appear, a son Johannes. Johannes, neither the date of his marriage nor his wife's name appear, though his children are given as; Johannes, Jacob, Johathan, and William H. He is buried at Friedens Church, Wessensvill. I have to out now, will put up the rest a little later. Best Wishes, Geri

    3. Hi all, I've recently added a ton of Pennsylvania obits to the archive at Obituary Central http://www.obitcentral.com. I've also added a drop-down to the search window that lets you single out a state when doing a search. Just remember, there are a lot of Pennsylvania residents who have died in other states, though. Other news, I've added to each GenLookups state pages a link to old panoramic city maps. For instance, go to http://www.genlookups.com/pa.htm and look on the right column, about midway down and you'll see the link. Most of the state pages will have a similar link. Hope this helps.
