    3. Researching the HALDEMAN family who emigrated to the U.S. from Switzerland and branched Westward from Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. My line remained in Pennsylvania and settled in Schulykill County around Tamaqua (Christian and Priscilla TURNER-HALDEMAN). Specifically, Hezekiah HALDEMAN (b. 1805-1806) married Maria BOLYERT (b 1810) at LANCASTER, MARCH 1829. MARIA BOLYERT (BALLIET?) HALDEMAN. Does anyone on the list know of this woman, and can you tell me anything about her family? She may have been from LANCASTER, since she and Hezekiah married at Lancaster. These folks lived in SCHUYLKILL and eventually moved to Carbon County (Summit Hill, 1840's). Will gladly share what I have.

    3. Folks, Researching my line of the HALDEMAN family. They came from Switzerland and branched out from Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. Some went Westward, but my lineage remained in Pennsylvania and settled in Schulykill County around the area of West Penn (Christian and Priscilla TURNER-HALDEMAN). Specifically, Hezekiah HALDEMAN (b. 1805-1806) married Maria BOLYERT (B. 1810) at LANCASTER, MARCH 1829. This information is given by the LDS. Their Lancaster marriage causes me to think that MARIA BOLYERT HALDEMAN may have been from Lancaster. I do not believe "Bolyert" is a correct spelling, but I am uncertain. Maria's surname may have been BALLIET. This couple, Hezekiah and Maria, lived in Schuylkill County (West Penn, Tamaqua) and eventually moved to Carbon County (Summit Hill, 1840's). I have traced the Haldeman family to Summit Hill, but have no idea how to find g-g grandmother MARIA BOLYERT-HALDEMAN. I would so appreciate help with this. I have quite a lot of Haldeman information I will share. Thanks very much, Ann

Moser-Berks County History There has been much confusion occasioned through two of the early settlers of this commumity bearing similar names, Burkhart Mosser Jr., and Burkhart Moser. In 1751 there emigrated one Hans Michael Moser, with his wife Catharine and 4 children,, settled in Amity township. They came over in the Duke of Wurtember. After locating in this country a 5th child was born to them. (1), George, born 1740, died 1806, and was buried at St. John's Centre Square, Montogmery Co. He married Margaret Leber, no children. At the close of the War, Christian settled in Montogmery Co, near Whitepain. Burkard was somewhat eccentric, and it stated he settled near Tamaqua, Schuylkill Co. There is evidence to show he vistied his brothers on several occasions, and that Peter vistied him once. Burkhard Moser was a bachelor and died intestate. Mosser-Lehigh County History Burkard Mosser, Sr., came to this county about 1727. He owned land in Schuylkill County, then NorthamptonCo. Burkard Mosser, Sr., married ___ Oswald. The Mosser Family of Centre County, who now go by the name of Musser. Michael Mosser, son of Philip, also spelled the name Moser. The family Bible states, was, "ein son das Michel Mosser von Lecha County." 3. Hi Joan, it looks like I did put up Ache a while ago, but I'm not sure on what list. It should start. The Achey Family. Among the Norman soldiers who went with William the Conqueror to England in the year 1066, the Dooms-day-Book preserved several by the name Ache. Spelling; Ache, Achey, Acha, Achi, Achia, Achi, Acke, Ackie, Ackee, Aikey, Aggy, Auge, Oachy, Othey, Aoe, Achan, Achin, Aukey, Aucha, Auchy, Auchey, Aughe, Aughey and others. Henry Aughey as the name finally took a permanent form in Juniata County, was born in Tulpehocken twp., Jan 20, 1759, and was married to Elizabeth Shuey, d/o John, of W. Hanover, son of Daniel of Bethel, who came to PA in 1732. John Shuey had a son Conrad, called after his mother, a dau., of George Conrad of Heidelberg, who died in 1765. Caleb Graydon took up a tract of land he sold it to Conrad Shuey and he induced his brother-in-law, Henry Aughey to buy a farm in the same township; but just before he moved his wife died and was buried at Linglestown. A few years afterward he came back and married M. Magd. Felty and had one Samuel. Among the children of his 1st wife wee Elizabeth, wife of Daniel Hoover; Catharine, married Jacob Partner; Susanna, married Jacob Heckman, These husbands all came Dauphin Co. Heckman died in Centre; Hoover in Vanango, and he is blamed with having destroyed the Achey history. Another daughter, Mary M., married Abraham Guss, of a family of Chester County. Henry Ache lived in Heidelberg township, some 6 miles east of Lebanon. He must have been a brother to John Lewis, who signed himself as Hermanus, Latin form of Herman. Henry Ache of Heidelberg, died in 1786. His children seem to have been, Henry,by his first wife, and by the second wife Catharine, Samuel, and the followig under the age at the time of his death; Jacob, Elizabeth, George, Susanna, Thomas, John, Christian, Peter and Sophia. Henry died 1808. Samuel married Elizabeth Albright, d/o George of Heidelberg. Jacob was a Capt. in the War of 1812. Afterwards he went to New Orleans, and was never heard from again. John H. Achey, president of a bank, in Dayton, Ohi. John P. Achey, son of Peter also lived in Dayton. Thomas married ChristinaStickel of Shaefferstown, where he died in 1826. His children were; John of Oley, Christian, married___ Holder, Samuel, married Anna Egle, Catharine, Thomas, Henry married ____Ryder, and died in Phila, Peter,Charles married ___ Foltz of Lancaster where he died in 1838, Anthony drowned near Lancaster, Frederick of Baltimore, Lydia married __ Raber, of Lykens Valley, and Filbert died unmarried. 3. John Schoonover b. August 12, 1839 d. April 12 1930 Civil War Union Army officer. Rose from a First Lieutenant to Lieutenant Colonel and commander of the 11th New Jersey Volunteer Infantry regiment during the Civil War. After serving a year with a Pennsylvania regiment, John Schoonover enlisted as regimental adjutant of the 11th New Jersey, and served in that capacity during the Battles of Fredericksburg and Chancellorsville. His most reknown moment occurred on the 2nd day of the Battle of Gettysburg (July 2, 1863), when the 11th New Jersey was nearly decimated while resisting Confederate assaults on the Peach Orchard. While holding a position just south of the Klingel House on Emmitsburg Road, the 11th came under severe fire from its front and right. All the unit's officers were killed or wounded, including Schoonover, who was hit three times. Despite his wounds, he informed each of the successive regimental commanders that their immediate superiors had gone down. When Capt! ain Dorastus Logan was killed, John Schoonover became the last remaining officer and took command himself. He held the regiment in place, then led it in a slow fighting withdrawal until he fell too weakened by his wounds. When he went down, the 11th New Jersey finally broke for the safety of Cemetery Ridge. Captain Samuel T. Sleeper arrived to take command of the regiment that night, but deferred command to Lt. Schoonover the next day in recognition of his previous day's performance. John Schoonover was subsequently promoted from Lieutenant to Lieutenant Colonel, and commanded the 11th until the end of the war. He was brevetted Colonel, US Volunteers on April 2, 1865. This was contributed to find a grave by Russ Dodge, if you would like to see pictures follow the link http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=10414 Thanks Lily
