Best Wishes, Geri _____ From: Joan Cain Sent: Tuesday, August 22, 2006 6:06 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Northampton County Lookup Dear Geri, Hello. I require all of the research help and/or assistance I can get for some ancestors of mine who lived in Northampton County Pennsylvania in the early 1800s. I am willing to pay for research assistance, so if this is something you'd be willing to help me with, please e-mail your rates. The names I am interested in are: Elias Black, born in PA, year unknown, who married Eliza Bell UNKNOWN in Stroudsburg, Northampton Co., PA, either in the year 1824 or the year 1828 or sometime in between, month and day I have is 03 Jan. They could have even been married in New Jersey, but I have found no record in any databases available online. As of this time, I have been unable to confirm Eliza's maiden name as Bell. She was purportedly born in Mt. Bethel, Northampton County, PA, 10 Jan. 1803, but the year of her birth might be as late as 1809. I have conflicting dates of birth and place of marriage for Eliza and can explain further if need be. Eliza and Elias Black had the following known children: Jannette Black John Black Mary Ann Black, born PA abt. 1832 Morris Black George W. Black, born OH in 1839 Emma "Emily" J. Black, born Magnolia, Putnam County, Illinois, 27 Mar 1841 (My 2nd great grandmother) Elias Black died in Magnolia, Putnam Co., IL, on 16 Oct. either in the years 1840, 1841, or 1842. Eliza had a second marriage to Orin Bacon, 25 May 1843 in Hennepin, Putnam County, IL and had the following known children: Alonzo Bacon, alias Alonzo Black, born Magnolia, Putnam Co., IL Joseph Bacon, alias Joseph Black - killed at Ft. Donnelson during Civil War, birth place unknown. Justin Bacon, alias Justin Black, killed in a pony accident somewhere in IL bet. 1860 and start of the Civil War. Justin is enumerated on the 1860 census in Bloomington, McLean Co., IL., birthplace unknown. To make matters even more confusing, Orin Bacon purportedly disappeared in a land prospecting deal in the west in about 1847, at which time, for reasons unknown to me, Eliza went back to using the surname Black and all of the Bacon children did as well. I can provide further details of the family if needed. My main objective right now is to confirm Eliza Bell's maiden name and to find out who her ancestors were. I would also like to find out as much as I can about Elias Black. I know nothing of him other than he was born somewhere in PA. Eliza's father and/or grandfather and/or their siblings purportedly served in the Revolutionary War, but unfortunately, the person who wrote the family narrative on this topic didn't use these people's names, so I have no idea who they were.
