    1. [PANORTHA] Death Register?
    2. Shirley S.
    3. There are many Northampton Co. ancestors for whom I would like to find dates of death, most from about 1870 to 1915. I hope to get some obituaries once I find these dates. I've heard there is a county death register, and I would like to know what years that might cover, and if there is any way I can access it from out of state--internet, microfilm, book? I've books with church cemeteries in HeritageQuest, I've combed all the online cemetery transcriptions I can find, and used the online obituary indexes for Easton, Bethlehem and Access Pennsylvania Digital Archives. If anyone can suggest another source, I'd certainly be grateful. Thanks, Shirley

However, there is evidence that some of the suggestions of deaths in the Pennsylvania Archives were not correct. At least three of the ten who were reported to have died were still living in the 1800s. a.. Isaac Shimer, a private, is listed in the Archives as "promoted to Lieut. of Capt. Arndt's Company; d. Jan. 14, 1777." The well-regarded register of officers in the war, by Francis Heitman,[50] apparently agreed with this conclusion of early death. It gave this entry for Shimer: "Isaac Shimer (PA), 3d Lt of Baxter's PA Battalion of the Flying Camp, 9th July 1776; wounded and taken prisoner at Fort Washington, 16th Nov, 1776 and died shortly afterward." However, a website of the Shimer family said that after the war, Isaac Shimer became a justice of the peace in Williams Township, Northampton County, and that he lived from 1749 to 1838. This suggests he was 27 when the war began and that the reports of his death in early 1777 were exaggerated.[51] [50] Heitman, Francis B., Historical Register of Officers of the Continental Army during the War of the Revolution, April 1775 to December 1783, Rare Book Shop Publishing Company, Inc., Washington, D.C., 1914. I think I would be in violation of copyright to put his work online but I'd be happy to do lookups in the cemetery books. Marsha

    2. It is a common practice when responding to a message to include the text of the message to which one is responding. This links the response to the original message for those who receive the messages individually. in the List format. However, I do agree with you that we should be courteous and delete those portions of the original message that are not really needed .Included in the repeated text are the date and sender of the original message. Any one who wants to read the entire message can easily find it in their own mailbox, if it has not been deleted, or in the list archives. Genealogists are researchers. Everyone should learn how to search the archives of the Rootsweb mailing lists. For any one who wants to see an example of what I mean, just look below. I have left just about all of the original message because it was only a few lines. All the add-ons that are attached to every message were deleted. Thoughtfulness and courtesy is always appreciated by everyone. 2. Hello, I have many of the cemetery transcription from the Upper Mt. Bethel area and would be happy to do a look up. Many were transcribed by Bill and Betty Dopke. Bill sent me copies many years ago before he left Pennsylvania. Who all are you looking for and about when did they die. Marsha from Michigan

    3. Eva, If you are going to looking to the Shimer's would love to find info on Isaac believe he was a Lieut. in the Rev. a relative of Ludwig Cupp. A cousin I think but I don't know whether that was a maternal or faternal, anyway need to find the connection so maybe I can find parents of Ludwig, his father died abt 2 months before he died. Thought there might be some court records as to gaurdian or something. You're directly descendant from Anthony Papen Shimer??? I would love to help with this. If he was born in Shimertown there might be some records locally, like in Northampton County,Pa that shed some light on who his spouse is. I live in Warren County NJ but its very close to the Pa border. Send me his info and his children and I'll see what there might be.
