I just read Geri's email on the Messinger family and found Michael, born 31 Mar 1759, married Elizabeth Stocker, born 15 Aug 1768. I am interested in finding the birth dates for their children who Geri has listed. Does anyone have this information or know where to find it. I just wrote to Geri asking but she is so busy, I thought I would just put it out on the list. Margie

I think and have thought also, that if we just will listen to our conscience, it will give us names. McKinney is one I have been hearing, but I had a grade school principal by that name and ignored it. And among the SMITH family in Westmoreland Co. was a McKinney. I have yet to be able to do anything because I haven't pinpointed my James Brady SMITH's parents yet. I had an article publishd in KENTUCKY ANCESTORS (My 1st one) in which I tried to explain this sorting out of names and spellings by sound, to no avail, it seems, as, when I emailed the Head of the KY History Center re the publication number being dated two years before arrival, I got a short answer. So, I know he has gotten some flack, but there are many, many people who do not know their surnames were spelled in a different way, way back when. I even brought it out that the people who were douing the PA ARCHIVES, had WORTHAMPTON CO., instead of NORTHAMPTON. W/M/N can be taken for each other from deciphering by different people, because they don't realize the possibilities here. I even found a PHITZSIMMONS in Sumner Co., TN, when I was working on an F name. I then wrot a cousin, and she said "No wonder we can't find these people. Only she put an ! after it. After all, could the GRIDER family of Warren Co., KY also be the KREIDER family of PA???? Sorry I did not see it until today. I made a copy of the whole thing and will study it as more of our family may be listed. My Jacob did serve in the Rev War out of Bucks County under ... Erwin (I forget his first name) and now there is a town called Erwinna in Tinicum Twsp named after him. The trouble is Jacob's correct birthdate. The date I have could be right but there doesn't seem to be any proof. Christian does look like a likely candidate (and when he died his wife was listed as Barbara) so I thought maybe his children were listed with birth dates in some church records. I have a lot of birth records for Bucks county but not for Northampton. His will does list them as Henry, Jacob, Moses, Ann Elizabeth, Mary, Charity, Eva Jane, and Rosinna and many of these names were used again for Jacob's children. In Tinicum they attended a Presbyterian church but others in the family may have been Lutheran. For some reason I don't think they were German but may have been Scotch. No proof though. You are correct - there were many ways to spell Weaver and there are many Jacob Weavers all over the place! There was a Christian Webber who arrived in Philadelphia about the right time who could be the Christian above. (At the moment I can't find this data. Since it is speculative I didn't enter it into the computer.) For what it's worth the SAR record application was submitted in 1929 and says Jacob was born in Harrisonville, VA. This flies against everything else I've heard but perhaps I should pursue it. Thank you again for all your time and trouble. I really appreciate it! If you should ever need records for Bucks County I have quite a few, especially cemetery records so just let me know. It make me wonder if you have some source - perhaps compiled lists - where you can look these up. If so ----- I wonder if you would mind looking up my line. Jacob Weaver was my ancestor and many reports say he was born 12 Apr 1746. However, all these reports seem to go back to the same SAR record as proof and that record is full of errors. So I am looking for something more reliable like church records. I did find a will for a Christian Weaver who died in Mt Bethel Township, Northampton, in 1783 and he looks like a likely candidate for Jacob's father since both families used the same given names for their children. And, if you have time, would you also please look for Hannah Harrison. She was Jacob's first wife and I can find nothing on her. If you find Christian's family perhaps Hannah's is nearby. Jacob spent his adult life in Tinicum, Bucks County, and is said (?) to have been born in Bucks but at that time Northampton was part of Bucks so it would still fit. If you can shed any light on this family I would be so greatly indebted to you! Thank you for your time. geranic immigrants in pa. ship lists the ship pink johnson arrived sept. 19, 1732. the archives gives 110 names, this photostat show 112. there are many errors. behn should be bohn, beer, bey, rouse, rauch, coplinger, keplinger, etc. john moesinger settled in bucks co. with him was his son michael messinger, born nov 17, 1719, who first settled in bucks co and later in forks twp., northampton co., where he had a grist mill, became prominent and was member of the county committe of obseration in the rev. he died oct. 24, 1791. he was the ancstor of one of the members of our excutive committee and has many descendans in northampton co. If yer pressed for time, go for it. Once Im back to Germany from Iraq, I have a plan to visit Reutlingen once more, as well as Basel, and hopefully can turn something definitive up. I, too, have not come up with anything definitive about Basel. Reutlingen's history is loaded with Messingers. There is an obituary I read one time, Samuel Shimer Messinger (d. 1900) or his son, G Frank (d. 1932 I think), of 'Messinger Manufacturing" fame that refers to their immigrant's hailing from Basel. It has to be in the history for one reason or another. If anything, the family could have got their riverboat to Rotterdam from there. Im uncertain whether Michael Sr was actually born there. Please keep me in the loop. Thanks. Michael is also my ancestor. I have a DAR supplemental on him and his son John. Last I was to Arndt's Cemetery, I could not find his stone. It has disappeared. The whole cemetery is in very bad shape.
