    3. Hi, Listers, My association with the Mon Valley is both ancestral and personal. Some ancestors, the McCloskeys, came from Northern Ireland in the 1830s and moved from the port of Baltimore, through Mt. Savage, MD to settle in the long gone town of Port Perry. Port Perry was a thriving town near what is now Braddock. It ceased to exist as it was swallowed by the mills along the banks of the Mon. There has been talk of a limitation on the geography of this list, stopping in Elizabeth. Port Perry was downstream from there. It was, however, definitely in the Mon Valley. Family legend has my ggrandmother McCloskey rowing down the Mon to shop at Boggs and Buhl, returning the same way. I know that her in-laws, the Dunns, were from the North Side, so I suspect that if this legend is true, she may have spent the night with them. Other branches of my family were from the areas of Washington county called Candor, Cherry Valley and Burgettstown. I've not yet visited these places, but it does not appear that they are in the Mon Valley. My personal connection with the Mon concerns forbidden trips down Nine Mile Run, from my Regent Square home to the river. Nine Mile Run, named for the distance from the Point to its place of entry into the Mon, was a running sewer. The Mon of the late 40s and early 50s was not much better. That's the story of "Me and the Mon." Is this the list for me? Ken Jones in NH
