Hello list members... Lets try a little experiment... sort of a mini roll call... that will help to pin-point when and where our ancestors first settled in the mid-Mon Valley. Lets keep it short and sweet to start, listing your earliest known direct ancestor that first came to the Valley, when, where they settled. Maybe your granddad and my granddad were neighbors!! I'll go first. Great great grandfather, John DONALDSON (1800-1880) and his brother James (1810-1863) were born in Perthshire Scotland. Moved in the 1920's to Canada (along with two sisters and their father.) The father died in Canada , the sisters remained there, and John and James moved to what is now Vesta / Allenport. John was willed the farm where he lived and worked, from his Uncle William DONALDSON in 1841. He eventually bought his cousins share of the farm (totaled 160 acres). The farm is the first, northernmost property as you enter present day Allenport coming from Charleroi. It streched nearly a mile, along the river, down to almost where "downtown" begins. (This area was known , unofficially, in the 1890's as "Donaldsonville") Thanks, Mike Donaldson ([email protected]) Allenport, PA ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ http://www.my-ged.com/donldson ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Listowner of: Monongahela River Valley of Penna Rootsweb mailing list: [email protected] - Mail mode [email protected] - Digest mode
