Hi friends, Thought some of you may be interested in this affadavit from the pension application filed by John Conaway for his son Jesse's Civil War service. Sorry for the multiple listings, but perhaps there is interest. Eva AFFADAVIT OF N. W. TRUXAL, M.D. In the Pension claim of John Conaway father of Jesse Conaway Co. G. 3rd Pa. Pro.Cav No. 468.712 State of Pennsylvania, Fayette County, S.S. On this 28 day of October, A.D. 1891, before me, a Justice of the Peace in and for the State and county aforesaid, personally appeared Dr. N. W. TRUXAL, aged 69 years, who, being duly sworn according to law, deposes and says: In April, 1852, I located my home and office in Millsborough, Washington Co., Penna., and some time after that I became acquainted with John CONAWAY, a miner, who lived with his family within a mile of my office, and my records show that on the 20th of June, 1855, I was first called upon to give him medical treatment. In 1859 I moved my family and office to Coal Center, Wash. Co., Pa., about sixteen miles down the Monongahela river, and from that place I went into the army, in July, 1861, and was mustered out on the 28th of January, 1865, when I returned to my home. In the mean time John CONAWAY had moved his family to Woods Run, a little village two miles down the river from Coal Center, and, on the 19th of June, 1870, I was called upon to visit his son, Jesse, who was needing medical treatment. I found him in a very bad condition, with Bronchial Catarrh and Chronic Diarrhea. His excessive coughing had ruptured some blood vessels, and the expectorations were usually mixed with blood. From the 19th of June to the 20th of August, 1870, I visited him thirty-six times, aggregating 144 miles, and, in addition, furnished the medicines, and, his father being in very poor circumstanceshis main support having died, I have never presented my bill for services rendered. When he died he left his father, John CONAWAY, without means of support other than his own earnings and the contributions of his friends, and his death was not the result of any vicious habits of his own. I have no interest, direct or indirect, in the prosecution of this claim. My post-office address is Brownsville, Fayette Co., Pa. N. W. TRUXAL, M.D. Capt. Co. I 5th West Va. Cavry. Sworn to and subscribed before me the day and year first above written, and I certify that I have no interest, direct or indirect, in the prosecution of this claim. Sam H.
