OBITUARY: Bessie C. Wright, 88, of Pleasant Unity, died Sunday, April 26, 1998, at Latrobe Area Hospital. She was born Nov. 22, 1909, in Unity Township, a daughter of the late John W. and Emma (Moore) Smith. Prior to retirement, she worked for the U.S. Postal Service, which included almost 20 years as postmaster in Pleasant Unity. She also was a census worker in Unity Township. She was a member and the first woman trustee of the Pleasant Unity United Methodist Church. Mrs. Wright also served as election bureau minority poll inspector for many years, volunteered at the food bank and enjoyed playing in card clubs. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin E. Wright; and two sisters: Leah Haberlen and Nellie P. Patterson. She is survived by two sons, Dr. Richard E. Wright and wife, Barbara, of Bethel Park and John W. Wright and wife, Rita, of Williamsburg, Va.; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the GAUT-BACHA FUNERAL HOME INC., Pleasant Unity, Tuesday and Wednesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held in the Pleasant Unity United Methodist Church, Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Clark R. Kerr officiating. Everyone should go directly to the church. Interment will follow in the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant Township.
