LOCAL SOLDIER DIES IN FRENCH BATTLE ACTION Word is Received of Death Of PFC. James Hamilton of Charleroi Word was received last night by Mrs. Evelyn R. HAMILTON, of 103 McKean Avenue, of the death in action of her husband, Private First Class James R. HAMILTON, aged 36 years. His death occurred on August 17. The message received here follows: The Secretary of War desires me to Express his deep regret that your husband, Private First Class James R. HAMILTON, Was killed in action on seventeen August in France. Letter follows. J.A. ULIO The Adjutant General PFC. HAMILTON, the son of Carl HAMILTON, of Charleroi, entered the service in February, 1942, and went overseas in September, 1943. He was in the armored infantry. In the tank destroyers following up his division was a brother, Corporal Dale HAMILTON. Both were in the First Army. His mother, Mrs. Eva HAMILTON, died in May of this year. Surviving besides his wife and father, are five brothers, Corporal Dale, in France; Master Sergeant Clyde V., of the Ninth Air Force in England; A/C Warren in Ballinger, Texas; Fred of Stockdale, and Carl of Roscoe; five sisters, Mrs. Lee McCORMICK, Roscoe; Mrs. Frank CROW, Monessen, Mrs. Anna Sheperd, Cambridge, Mass., Mrs. Evelyn KOBALLA, and Shirley HAMILTON at home. Two nephews are also in the military service, A/C James CROW at Big Springs, Texas, and Corporal Frank CROW, at Lemoore, California.
