Julia, Thank you so much for the resources, I need all the help I can get! I'm at a real concrete wall on my ancestor John Courtright. He lived in the OH Valley area from c1799 to 1830: 1799-1818 various townships in Beaver Co., PA, never taxed for land only 1 cow! I have looked through the Beaver land records & he's not mentioned. 1820 Columbiana Co., OH census , according to several co. histories he moved there in 1818. I've looked through these land records as well, nothing. 1830 Smithfield twp., Jefferson Co., OH is when he last appears on the census. I haven't found an older man living in the 1840 census of his children so "assume" he died 1831-1840. I've had several people do look ups for me in the Jeff. land/probate records, nothing. Where else should I look? He left 10 children, the youngest 2 were minors when he died, IF he died 1831-1840. I feel that his land was somewhere in the Short Creek Twp., Harrison & Smithfield Twp., Jefferson area. That's where his kids were concentrated for a time after his death. With so many Courtrights in the area for generations it baffles me that none of them left a will? I recently received death certificates for about 20 or so of them in the OH Valley area alone! I can connect all except one to my John Courtright. One more question: I know John's son James died 1834 of cholera in Beaver Co., PA as it's in an old newspaper article . I'm assuming it was a problem on the west side of the river as well. Do you know of any lists of cholera deaths? Thanks for letting me ramble!
