I received this article/obituary this week from the library in Uniontown, and am forwarding copies to the list in case there are other who may be related to these families. My research interest is the Abbott family. The James Abbott mentioned in this article is the son of James Abbott and his wife Emma Maloy. Article mentions interment in the cemetary in Roscoe. Does anyone know if there is a cemetary in Roscoe? I know that Howe Cemetary is near Roscoe, but I believe that is considered Long Branch, Mt. Tabor is also near there, but also considered Long Branch. This article appeared on page two of the "Daily News Standard" weekly edition September 13, 1917: "Beal Sup't Killed and One Injured" Walking into an exploding charge of mine powder, Henry Abbott, aged 44, superintendent of the Beal Coal Company's mine at Revere, Friday afternoon was instantly killed and Edward Farnhart, miner, of Uledi, was badly injured and is now in the Uniontown hospital. Mr. Abbott had been employed as superintendent of the plant less than one month. He was formerly mine foreman for the Eclipse mine and has lived the greater part of his life at Roscoe, where members of the family reside. The two men had placed a charge in one of the workings and had retired to await the explosion. A similar charge nearby went off, and the two men returned to the spot in the belief that their explosive had been fired. They were within a foot of the charge when it let go. The superintendent was badly torn and death was immediate. Barnhart was thrown a considerable distance and his legs were crushed. Nearby workers carried the two men out and Barnhart was rushed to the Uniontown hospital. At that institution an X-ray examination will be made this morning to locate the fractures. The bones of the left leg were broken, it is believed, in four places and there are compound dislocation of the right leg. The superintendent is survived by his wife, an adopted daughter, his parents and one brother, Alva Abbott of Roscoe. The remains were taken to the undertaking parlors of W.S. Nixon where they have been prepared for burial. Services will be conducted Sunday afternoon at Roscoe with interment in the cemetary there. Tammy
