    1. [PAMONVAL] TAPS
    2. I have seen the requests for asking about the words (and background) to the words to TAPS. I developed my interest in this when my dad died last April. The program from the Veterans Homes of California uses these words to Taps: Day is done Gone the sun, >From the Earth, >From the Lakes, >From the Sky, All is well, Safely rest God is nigh Now, I don't prfess to say this is the only wording; however is IS the official words as used by the California Department of Veterans Affairs. As to finding out the "original" story behind the words, there are two primary sources: (1) run a search. I use "Google" (www.google.com) for my searches, though most any search engine will pull something up. There are MORE THAN ONE explanation. You can pick whichever one you like best. (2) contact a local Military Base, preferrably Army, and/or the American Legion. I have found 2 or 3 "versions" of how the words came about, and found one that had about 3, maybe 4 Stanza's to it. When my dad died last April, I went to a Church Memorial Service, then the burial service at Riverside (CA) National Cemetery, where they played Taps from a tape (Medal of Honor recipients get a genuine bugler), and at the California Veterans Home where my dad lived. The bugler was absent that day, so they played it with a tape, but the program had the above words on it. That was the first time I ever knew there were words to Taps! Since then I've done some "homework" on the subject. I managed to get two soldiers from Ft. Irwin Army Base to handle my dad's funeral. They folded the flag, and presented it to my mother; and they did a couple other things, one was pushing the button on the machine to play Taps. Do the Search, see what you come up with; contact the Army and/or the American Legion, then pick which one you like best. There are no wrong answers! Regards, Robert D. Mollenauer, Jr. Ridgecrest, CA b. Charleroi, Wash. Co., PA

Also does anyone have any information on St. Mary cemetery in Uniontown. I am looking for the grave of Mary Timko that died in 1918 in the flu epidemic. She was buried according to her death certificate there but I have no idea where. I was told Hakey Funeral Home had the records of graves sites. 3. Hi friends, Thought some of you may be interested in this affadavit from the pension application filed by John Conaway for his son Jesse's Civil War service. Sorry for the multiple listings, but perhaps there is interest. Eva AFFADAVIT OF N. W. TRUXAL, M.D. In the Pension claim of John Conaway father of Jesse Conaway Co. G. 3rd Pa. Pro.Cav No. 468.712 State of Pennsylvania, Fayette County, S.S. On this 28 day of October, A.D. 1891, before me, a Justice of the Peace in and for the State and county aforesaid, personally appeared Dr. N. W. TRUXAL, aged 69 years, who, being duly sworn according to law, deposes and says: In April, 1852, I located my home and office in Millsborough, Washington Co., Penna., and some time after that I became acquainted with John CONAWAY, a miner, who lived with his family within a mile of my office, and my records show that on the 20th of June, 1855, I was first called upon to give him medical treatment. In 1859 I moved my family and office to Coal Center, Wash. Co., Pa., about sixteen miles down the Monongahela river, and from that place I went into the army, in July, 1861, and was mustered out on the 28th of January, 1865, when I returned to my home. In the mean time John CONAWAY had moved his family to Woods Run, a little village two miles down the river from Coal Center, and, on the 19th of June, 1870, I was called upon to visit his son, Jesse, who was needing medical treatment. I found him in a very bad condition, with Bronchial Catarrh and Chronic Diarrhea. His excessive coughing had ruptured some blood vessels, and the expectorations were usually mixed with blood. From the 19th of June to the 20th of August, 1870, I visited him thirty-six times, aggregating 144 miles, and, in addition, furnished the medicines, and, his father being in very poor circumstanceshis main support having died, I have never presented my bill for services rendered. When he died he left his father, John CONAWAY, without means of support other than his own earnings and the contributions of his friends, and his death was not the result of any vicious habits of his own. I have no interest, direct or indirect, in the prosecution of this claim. My post-office address is Brownsville, Fayette Co., Pa. N. W. TRUXAL, M.D. Capt. Co. I 5th West Va. Cavry. Sworn to and subscribed before me the day and year first above written, and I certify that I have no interest, direct or indirect, in the prosecution of this claim. Sam H.
