Hello all. I'm looking for any information on the above surnames from Croatia. (Paul?) Poverzenic came to the US about 1910. His wife was a Yezerinac. Not sure where they came from in Croatia. Their son, Michael (1912-1989), changed the spelling of their name to Povrzanich. Rose (or Rosa) Mauzer (1873-1950) came from, we believe, a town by the name of Primorje (?). (I've been told that the town is near the sea.) Her fathers name was Tomas. Her husband , Josip Kostelac(1876-1960) was from Kostel, near Pribic. All of the above came to the US in the early part of the century, and settled near Fayette City, a small town on the Monongahela River in South West PA (Fayette County) -- Thanks Mike Donaldson, Bentleyville, PA (mdonald4@bentcom.net) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Mon Valley History and Genealogy Website: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~pamonval/ Mon Valley: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow: http://www.geocities.com/mdonald318/ My family gedcom: http://www.my-ged.com/donldson ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Listowner of: Monongahela River Valley of Penna Rootsweb mailing list: PAMONVAL-L@rootsweb.com - Mail mode PAMONVAL-D@rootsweb.com - Digest mode Bieneman / Bienemann Rootsweb Mailing list Bienemann-L@rootsweb.com - Mail Mode Bienemann-D@rootsweb.com - Digest mode
Hello All, I am trying to find out more on my ATCHESON lines in Washington County. I know from a death certificate that the parents were: James ATCHESON (b. PA between 1808-1810) and his wife Susan HUDSON (b. in PA abt. 1818) Census records track the family as follows. I sure am interested in the family lines for James and Susan! 1850 Federal Census, Washington Co., Union Twp Page 260, Line 56/56 Atchenson, James; 42 years of age, born in PA; laborer Atchenson, Susan, wife; 31 years of age, born in PA Atchenson, Elizabeth, 14 years of age, born in PA Atchenson, John; 13 years of age, born in PA Atchenson, Esther; 10 years of age, born in PA Atchenson, *Sarah C.; 8 years of age, born in PA [my immediate ancestress; married to George ROBSON] Atchenson, Samuel; 5 years of age, born in PA Atchenson, Statira, 2 years of age, born in PA ---------------- 1860 Federal Census, Washington Co. I am trying to find other researchers concerned with the surname ROBSON (AKA: ROBESON, ROBISON); married to ATCHESON: I descend from the son *George, found in the following early census record: (M432) 1850 Federal Census: Washington co., Union Twp. (same county of residence as future in-law's of both sons George and Henry, who married to ATCHESON sisters) shows: James Robison, age 49, Coalminer, born in England (abt. 1801) Margaret Robison, age 45, born in England (abt. 1805) James, age of 19, coalminer, born in PA Thomas, age of 17, coalminer, born in PA *George, 11, born in PA [ b. 1839] Henry, age of 9, born in PA Isabella, age of 6, born in PA Jacob Jonston, age of 1, born in PA :therefore, assume this means that James & Margaret have been in US since at least 1831 date, when the first known child is born. Note the spelling of the name to be Robison, and the spelling of Jonston (instead of Johnston which is his mother's maiden name)- assume spelling variances. Sons George and Henry are later carried on military papers for the Civil War as ROBSON. George ROBSON married Sarah Clarinda ATCHESON, b. 1842 in Gastonville, PA the daughter of James ATCHESON and Susan HUDSON Thanks, Looking forward to finding SOMEONE out there also searching the same lines as myself! LOCAL MARINE IS KILLED IN SOUTH PACIFIC Mrs. Victoria A. SABLE, 613 First Street, Informed Of Death Of Son Robert Another gold star was added to Charlerois roll of war heroes today. Mrs. Victoria A. SABLE, 613 First street, was informed by Lt. Gen. A.A. VANDEGRIFT, commandant of the United States Marine Corps, that her son, Pfc. Robert E. SABLE, 19, was killed in action in the performance of his duty and service of his country. Mrs. SABLE was cautioned not to disclose her sons last duty station in the official notification. She did reveal however that he was in the South Pacific. Temporary burial took place in the locality of his death and further information was not disclosed due to the extreme import of his station. Robert was born in Charleroi and attended Charleroi high school. He worked in the Charleroi plant of Corning Glass Works and has been in the Marines eleven months. He had been overseas three months. Two brothers, William and Andrew, also survive. >From the Charleroi Mail Saturday, October 14, 1944 Page 1 ===== Eva Dayle Zippay Tallahassee, Florida evadayle@yahoo.com __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Emil ZIMMERMAN, of Sixth and Fallowfield, Private Regis LEE, of North Charleroi, and Corporal Andrew VERBACKY, of Ninth and Fallowfield, met accidentally on a ship coming home from Italy. On the ship were mostly hospital cases and wounded, some on rotation and some Air Corps men. S/Sgt. ZIMMERMAN of the Air Corps ground crew spent 26 months overseas; Corporal VERBASKY(sic) , also of the Air Corps ground crew, spent seven months overseas; Sergeant LUCENT, an infantry intelligence scout, and squad leader of the 36th division, and Private LEE, a paratrooper, fought within 300 yards of each other all winter on the Cassino front, without knowing each other was so near. Pvt. LEE fought the Japs at Kiska, then went to Italy where he remained for 12 months. Sergeant LUCENT landed in the first wave at Salerna(sic) and fought on up to the outskirts of Rome, where he was wounded for the second time and was awarded the Purple Heart with an oak leaf cluster. His outfit, after serving 18 months in Italy, participated in the invasion of Southern France. Sergeant LUCENT, who was in the hospital for two and one half months in Italy, and Private LEE, who was wounded on the outskirts of Cassino, fighting as special service paratroopers, are home for twenty one days delay enroute and will both return to a health center in Ashville, North Carolina. >From The Charleroi Mail Thursday, September 14, 1944 Page 1 ===== Eva Dayle Zippay Tallahassee, Florida evadayle@yahoo.com __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? He was most likely the s/o John Cortright & Susanna KITTLE. Many of the people of the Minisink Valley (SUssex Co., NJ & Orange Co., NY) left the area after the Rev. My John Courtright left w/ at least 2 others: Jacob FIGLEY & Abraham WESTFALL. At first they settled in Washington Co., PA. Some ended up in Beaver Co., PA when that county was formed. Some moved in 1818 to Columbiana Co., OH when that land opened. I have looked in land deeds for almost all these counties & have never found John Courtright mentioned. Researching the Kelly family, desc, of Daniel Kelly who's will was recored in Harrison co., OH in 1831. Names children: William, Isaac, David, Jonathan, Anne, Charlotte, Mary, Elizabeth. Jonathan was my ancestor. Executors & possible relatives were: William CHAMPER & John S. MCCLEAN. Daniel Kelly had lived in Washington Co., P in 1790 & owned land in Brooke co., (W)VA. His children lived in the surrounding counties. Jonathan married 1816 Jefferson Co., OH to Sarah KERRIGAN. I can find no Kerrigans in any of the counties, but many KERNAGHANs. IS this the same/correct family? I believe that Jonathans brother Isaac married Mary Kerrigan 1818 in Jefferson Co. Jonathan Kelly & Sarah Kerrigan had at least 10 known children. Most of this branch moved to Indiana in 1850-1855. Below are Jonathan's children & spouses. I am looking for more info on the early Kellys, Kerrigans & Courtrights. thanks, Cindy 1 Jonathan Kelly b: May 25, 1791 (Cross Creek Twp., Washinton Co., )PA d: Aug 21, 1870 Blue Creek Twp., Adams Co., IN .. +Sarah Kerrigan b: Jan 26, 1797 PA m: Aug 29, 1816 Jefferson Co.,OH d: Sep 5, 1855 Adams Co.,IN 2 Justus Kelly b: Apr 18, 1817 Island Creek Twp., Jefferson Co., OH d: Jan 12, 1887 Jay Co.,IN .... +Rebecca COURTRIGHT b: Feb 18, 1821 Centre Twp., Columbiana Co.,OH m: Oct 22, 1840 Harrison Co., OH, by George Atkinson, J.P. d: Dec 3, 1897 Jay Co.,IN Father: John COURTRIGHT Mother: Mary CLARK 2 Charlotte Kelly b: Abt. 1820 d: Bet. 1841 - 1842 OH .... +William Courtright b: 1808 Beaver Falls, Beaver Co.,PA m: Jul 2, 1840 Carroll Co., OH Father: John COURTRIGHT Mother: Mary CLARK 2 Jonathan Kelly b: Feb 1823 Island Creek Twp., Jefferson Co., OH d: Jun 14, 1898 Adams Co., IN .... +Esther CHAMPER b: Feb 13, 1823 OH m: Jun 29, 1843 Carroll Co.,OH d: Mar 14, 1907 Jay Co.,IN Father: UNKNOWN 2 Mary Jane Kelly b: 1825 OH .... +Jacob CHAMPER b: 1824 OH m: Dec 30, 1841 Carroll Co., OH d: res 1860 Jefferson Twp., Adams Co., IN Father: UNKNOWN 2 Issac B. Hello All... It's been quite a while since anything has been added to our Mon Valley History and Genealogy Website, but I have been getting a scattering of Obituaries from time to time. With a little help, I can add the next volume of these obits to the website. If you have any obits that you'd like posted, please forward them to me. If you've been posting them to this list, or have some typed up, and can copy them into one email, that would be easiest for me! Please use the subject line of "Obituary(ies) for submission", or somthin' like that! I have been quite busy, and have begun to feel that I may be neglecting the site, and all of you a bit. For this I apologize. Also, if you have anything else that you'd like to add to the site, please feel free to send it my way. If you need any help, let me know! -- Thanks Mike Donaldson, Bentleyville, PA (mdonald4@bentcom.net) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Mon Valley History and Genealogy Website: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~pamonval/ Mon Valley: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow: http://www.geocities.com/mdonald318/ My family gedcom: http://www.my-ged.com/donldson ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Listowner of: Monongahela River Valley of Penna Rootsweb mailing list: PAMONVAL-L@rootsweb.com - Mail mode PAMONVAL-D@rootsweb.com - Digest mode Bieneman / Bienemann Rootsweb Mailing list Bienemann-L@rootsweb.com - Mail Mode Bienemann-D@rootsweb.com - Digest mode

The Valley Independent is the local newspaper serving Charleroi and Monessen. Mary Lou
Hello, I saw Marilyn's request for the info on the newspaper that served Charleroi - I also would like to know that. If it is the same paper that was delivered in Monessen (across the river from Charleroi) that would be the Valley Independent, correct?
