I don't have much info on the KIDD family and if you have more, please send it on. Cora ========================================================= Name: Ida May KIDD --------------------------------------------- We know nothing about Ida May or her family, but there is an article in the German newspaper Volksblatt, on August 16, 1877 that says: "John KIDD, also known as Captain KIDD, of McKeesport has been accused in the recent commmotion. ... in a hearing before the Mayor, he was found in default of bail and put into the county jail." And another article [front page ] from the McKeesport Daily News - dated July 2, 1917 about one Winfield S. Kidd - he had a son, Jesse Kidd of East McKeesport. Whether these people are related to Ida May is unknown at this time. Spouse --------------------------------------------- 1: Michael H. CLINTNER Birth: 9 Feb 1852 PA. Death: 28 Feb 1913 Silvis Shops, Rock Is. Co., IL. Age: 61 Death Memo: at 10 a.m. Burial: 2 Mar 1913 Davenport, IA. Burial by Amit E. Danielson, Moline, IL. Occupation: pipefitter Father: Martin CLINTNER/KLINKENER (ca1815-1874) Mother: Margaret CORNYN/CORNIN (1821-1900) Religion: Confirmation at St. Peter's, McKeesport, PA. on Oct. 12, 1867. Occupation: The City Directory 1876 of McKeesport lists a M. H. Clintner who works at the Tube Works, but the same city directory for Dravosburg lists a Michael Clintner who works at J.C. Risher & Co. (Possibly the same company and Michael may have lived in one place and worked in the near-by town, thus getting listed twice.?) Land Records: In 1880, April 1st, M.H. Clintner of Mifflin Twp. sells to Frank W. Clintner of Mifflin Twp. land in Mifflin Twp. for $25. This is M.H.'s share of his father's estate (who died intestate). U.S. Census: of 1870 in Mifflin Township (P.O.Gill Hall) lists Martin Clintner 54 Stone Mason, R.E.value:$1000.; Margaret 49; John (Joseph?) 20 coal miner; Michael 18 coal miner; William (Frank W?)16 coal miner; Mary 13 at home; Anna 10; Agnes 8; Maryann (Margaret ?) 2. U.S. Census: of 1900 lists Michael as M. H. Clintner and living with him are his wife and Mary, his child as well as a James KIDD, boarder [quite possibly Mary's brother]. U.S. Census: of 1910, no longer lists James there, but the other three remain the same. Residence: Michael and his wife moved to Iowa sometime before 1908 as The Pittsburgh Leader has a article on p. 4 Aug. 25th of 1908 that states Mr. & Mrs. Michael Clintner and daughter of Iowa are visiting in Dravosburg. And again on Aug. 29th of 1908, also in The McKeesport News "Mr. & Mrs. M. H. Clinter (sic) and daughter, Marie of Davenport, IA. are visiting the former's sister, Mrs. J. F. Gannon." Other evidence indicates that they lived in Buffalo, Scott Co, Iowa. Obituary: --- Michael CLINTNER --- "Word has been received by Frank Clintner, of Dravosburg, of the sudden death of his brother, Michael, of Western Ave., Davenport, IA. Although he was over one hundred feet away [from] a terrible accident that occurred at the car shops where he was employed, the falling of a crane and killing one man and injuring several others wa too great a shock for Mr. Clintner and he expired while being helped to a car, which was to rush him to the hospital. The deceased was born in Dravosburg [PA.], a son of the late Martin and Margaret Clintner. He is survived by his wife, one daughter, two brothers and three sisters: Peter of Glassport [PA.]; Frank; Mrs. Hollihan and Miss Annie of Dravosburg, and Mrs. Gannon, of this city [McKeesport, Allegehny co., PA.]." >From the McKeesport Daily News of March 5, 1913; p. 4. Death: Michael's place of death is given as "Silvis Shops" in Rock Island County. An inquest was held and cause of death was determined to be: "Heart failure superinduced by excitement" at about 10 am. Parents' names are given as Martin Clintner and M. Corynan (? Cornyn). Last occupation given as: "pipefitter". Lived in state of Iowa for 29 years. This information was supplied by a J. B. Kidd of Canton, Illinois who may be a relative of Ida Kidd, Michael's wife. Undertaker was Amit E. Danielson of Moline, (IL. or IA.?). Children: Mary E. (1890-1958) Mary never married and continued to live in Iowa after her parents death. Sources 1. I'm beginning to think that your Donaldson's are the "other" Donaldson's, an unrelated family. But a few things did catch my eye in your family list. I had the name of Paul Raymond Donaldson's wife as Eva Sweeney, not Swaney. If her name was indeed Eva Swaney, do you know if she is the daughter of Thomas (b. 1858) and Lizzie Swaney (b. 1861)? I believe they lived in or near Roscoe. If this is the same Eva, her brother, Ralph Swaney, married Ethel Donaldson, my fathers sister. Even though the two Donaldson families may be unrelated, it was a matter of time before we found a connection somewhere, They lived too close! Also, my Uncle kept a small book of notes, giving birth, marriage and death information, along with telephone numbers. He noted a Frank (1875-1957) and Lena (1878-1962) Donaldson, husband and wife, had their telephone number, and listed their deaths. We've been unable to find a relationship to them. Perhaps they were friends, from your Donaldson's. They are buried in Monongahela Cemetery. Concerning the Donaldson who was Police Chief of Brownsville. I found an interesting site that has Archives of Glenn Tunneys Brownsville history columns (Herald Standard). Using the search engine, the only Donaldson is John Donaldson. He appears in a "Time Capsule", dated January 22, 1951: *" A spectacular fire has caused total loss estimated at $15,000 at the residence of Cleaver T. Jones of 371 High Street. Mrs. Jones and five other occupants of the big white brick dwelling were forced out and lost most of their possessions. Living on the first floor were Mrs. Jones and Miss Doris Wright, Brownsville high school teacher. Second floor occupants were former Police Chief John Donaldson and Mrs. Donaldson, and the third floor was occupied by Maude and Ida Brown. An overheated furnace caused the blaze, which was discovered by Miss Wright when she smelled smoke upon returning from school for lunch. Ironically, the fire occurred just one day before the Donaldsons were to move to a new location in Hiller." I mentioned this to Mr. Tunney, and will ask him if he has more info on the Chief. Don't give up...new resources are showing up all the time. With all the thousands and thousands of people researching, facts known within a family, or other details not on public record keep coming to light with new leads or clues, or often specific answers. I've been doing genealogy for 40 years and found more with my computer in two years than I did the old hunt and seek way for over 30 years. We are all links in a big round chain. I am carrying information that my grandmother got from her grandmother...that's over a century and a half of knowledge. ~~Dixie

Hello all. I'd like to add a new section to our Mon Valley History and Genealogy site. "Success Stories" will be a place where you can share your stories of finding an unknown, or long lost cousin, finally breaking down that genealogical brick wall, or finding a missing part of your family puzzle. If any of these things has occurred because of either the Mon Valley History and Genealogy Website, or as a result of this mailing list, send me your stories. I'm not looking for an "atta-boy" or a pat on the back. It's just nice to know that those stories are out there, and I'm sure that someone new to genealogy will be more likely to continuing with their research if they see that these resources do work. -- Thanks Mike Donaldson, Bentleyville, PA (mdonald4@bentcom.net) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Mon Valley History and Genealogy Website: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~pamonval/ Mon Valley: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow: http://www.geocities.com/mdonald318/ My family gedcom: http://www.my-ged.com/donldson ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Listowner of: Monongahela River Valley of Penna Rootsweb mailing list: PAMONVAL-L@rootsweb.com - Mail mode PAMONVAL-D@rootsweb.com - Digest mode Bieneman / Bienemann Rootsweb Mailing list Bienemann-L@rootsweb.com - Mail Mode Bienemann-D@rootsweb.com - Digest mode

Hi, Tammy, Thanks so much for the Mt. Tabor Methodist Church membership roll you sent. I very much appreciate it! The Crow names, while not direct line, are cousins of my ancestors who lived in the area...it was good to know where they held their church memberships. I'll add this to the information I have about them. Again, THANK YOU! Sincerely, Cindy Lucinda Cunningham Durbin <http://www.paperdolls.org>
Tammy, Thank you for posting this list. There are several of my line posted to this list. They, and their relationships, are: Cynthia Conoway--my great-grandmother Azel Conoway & Wm Conoway--Cynthia's brothers J.A. Rankins--possibly the husband to Cynthia's sister Sarah. Note: A J.A. Rankin (correct spelling) signed an affidavit as to the death date and attending the funeral of Jesse Conaway (correct spelling) in the Civil War pension application of John Conaway, father to Cynthia et. al. Later in those application papers, J.A. Rankin was identified under oath as Jacob Rankin. John Conway's will lists his daughter, Sarah Rankin. Alice Furlong and John Furlong--2 of Cynthia's 7 children Eli Geho--reputed to be the father of Cynthia's first child, my grandmother, Eva Conaway. James Ward--possibly the grandfather to Eli Geho. In the 1860 census Eli was listed as the grandson in the household of a James Warde I find it interesting that none of Cynthia's older children, by Eli, or by her first husband, William Foster, are listed as members of the church. Also, I found the name Lilly Conoway interesting. Cynthia's youngest child was Lilly Furlong, and in all my years of Conaway searching I haven't uncovered a Lilly Conaway. I wonder if this could be Lilly Furlong? As Lilly's mother and father both died while she was very young, perhaps one of her Conaway relatives took her in and she was incorrectly listed as a Conaway?
