Hello, I have a new surname that I have begun researching with little results. The spelling I have is VOYDILLA, but there is a handful of soundex names that match. This line was in the Cardale/Uniontown area around 1900...does anyone have any links? I would be interested even if the spelling is different. Also, is there anyone who can look this name up in the cemetery book? Thanks so much, Leah _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp
Elizabeth Underwood married Charles Speers. They are buried in Monongahela Cemetery. They had 4 children - Ellen who m John Tucker Ames from NY, Mary who m a Dykeman ( I have more on this PA line) Charles Penny Speers m Nelsie ? and died in Sacramento, CA (also had a son Charles Penny Speers who died about 1997 in the Sacramento area) and Betty who m (Mac) Joseph Frampton of Massachusetts. I have been trying to contact some of these descendents. I believe Charles Street on top of Speers hill was named for the first Charles Speers, son of Solomon C. Speers 1832-1918 and Anne Elizabeth Walker 1836-1884. Solomon inherited part of Speers, from his father Rev. Henry Speers 1756-1840. One of my first dentists was an Underwood who had an office in lower Belle Vernon in the late 40's and early 50's. I met his sister about 1983/4 in Myrtle Beach, SC at the Baptist Church. Hi Brian, That Underwood street was named after Joseph Underwood. His wife's maiden name was (Ellen) Roscoe, which is how the town got its name. The biography that you read was added along with many others from visitors to the website. My connections to the Underwood family are very distant. An outline is given below showing all the Underwoods in my tree. (My connection is through the Qualk family). The mailing list for the Mon Valley, which works in conjunction with the website has over 300 subscribers, and I know there are a few that have more information on the Underwoods. You can join the mailing list from the home page of the Mon Valley Site. I've forwarded your message, and this response to the list. Perhaps someone else can help you more than I. Have recently learned my ancestors lived near Fallowfield in Washington County--descended from Richard Power. His son, Benjamin Power, married Mary Salman/Salmen/Salmon in Washington County. They moved to Texas around 1836. Anybody have any connections? And am I on the right list for that area? BJBrothers@aol.com

I do see a Pat Mullen, who played for Detroit, but it says he was born in Trotter PA, where ever that is! I also remember Doug CeCinces, who I thought also lived in Brownsville. But the records show he was born in Burbank, California. I have to do a little more research on both of them. I received this obituary this week from the library in Uniontown. I am researching this Furlong family and have corresponded with others on the list who have connections to them. This obituary appeared in "The Morning Herald" on June 8, 1920: Louis Furlong Louis Furlong, aged 82 years, of Newell, died Sunday afternoon, June 6, 1920, at 6 o'clock after an illness of two weeks at his home in that place. Mr. Furlong was born in Wales and came to this country at the age of 33 years, enlisting in the Union army and serving during the war. The deceased was a prominent member of the G.A.R. Three sons and four daughters survive as follows: John and Thomas Furlong, of California; Harry Furlong, of Newell; Mrs. Fannie Stephenson, of Newell; Mrs. V.S. Marchand, of Newell; Mrs. W.F. Johnson, of South Brownsville, and Mrs. B.D. Williams of Brownsville. Funeral Services will be held from the late residence, Newell, this afternoon at 1 o'clock. Tammy
I received this article/obituary this week from the library in Uniontown, and am forwarding copies to the list in case there are other who may be related to these families. My research interest is the Abbott family. The James Abbott mentioned in this article is the son of James Abbott and his wife Emma Maloy. Article mentions interment in the cemetary in Roscoe. Does anyone know if there is a cemetary in Roscoe? I know that Howe Cemetary is near Roscoe, but I believe that is considered Long Branch, Mt. Tabor is also near there, but also considered Long Branch. This article appeared on page two of the "Daily News Standard" weekly edition September 13, 1917: "Beal Sup't Killed and One Injured" Walking into an exploding charge of mine powder, Henry Abbott, aged 44, superintendent of the Beal Coal Company's mine at Revere, Friday afternoon was instantly killed and Edward Farnhart, miner, of Uledi, was badly injured and is now in the Uniontown hospital. Mr. Abbott had been employed as superintendent of the plant less than one month. He was formerly mine foreman for the Eclipse mine and has lived the greater part of his life at Roscoe, where members of the family reside. The two men had placed a charge in one of the workings and had retired to await the explosion. A similar charge nearby went off, and the two men returned to the spot in the belief that their explosive had been fired. They were within a foot of the charge when it let go. The superintendent was badly torn and death was immediate. Barnhart was thrown a considerable distance and his legs were crushed. Nearby workers carried the two men out and Barnhart was rushed to the Uniontown hospital. At that institution an X-ray examination will be made this morning to locate the fractures. The bones of the left leg were broken, it is believed, in four places and there are compound dislocation of the right leg. The superintendent is survived by his wife, an adopted daughter, his parents and one brother, Alva Abbott of Roscoe. The remains were taken to the undertaking parlors of W.S. Nixon where they have been prepared for burial. Services will be conducted Sunday afternoon at Roscoe with interment in the cemetary there. Tammy
