    1. [PAMONVAL] OBIT - Mrs. Orange (Eva) CROW (Gillingham)
    2. Mother at 14 Passes Away. It can hardly be realized by the many friends and relatives of Mrs. Orange CROW, nee Eva GILLINGHAM, that she has closed her lips forever, passed to the great beyond from whence no man returned. It seems as though the angel of death might have spared one so young, one whose usefulness to mankind had not had a chance to develop, but, life is a lottery and it is indeed unfortunate that the flower of youth should be plucked just as it is blossoming into fragrance and beauty. Mrs. Crow, 14 years of age, was a bride of but a short period and the world full of happiness was before her. Her illness came at a time when all mothers' faces light up with joyfulness at the sight of her first born. Her youthfulness was against the heroic effort to ward off the fatal moment and while in great distress of mind and a very high fever, she passed away at 10:12 o'clock Tuesday morning. Her remains were removed to the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. GILLINGHAM. Services were held at the home and were conducted by Rev. H. H. WESTWOOD, Thursday and interment was at 2 o'clock at Mt. Tabor. Besides her husband, a little daughter, whom she named Blanche before her death, two sisters, Mrs. James LLOYD and Anna (?), two brothers George and Glen and her mother and father remain to mourn her departure. ---- Thanks, Mike Donaldson ([email protected]) Allenport, PA ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ http://www.my-ged.com/donldson ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Listowner of: Monongahela River Valley of Penna Rootsweb mailing list: [email protected]

    1. [PAMONVAL] Posting Obituaries
    2. Ok.. Time to start posting some of these obituaries... Feel free to do the same. I will start sending those from people that are somewhere on my tree... I have quite a few others as well... If you plan to also post obits, try and keep with the same general format as I am using... When the web site is up and running, I will be copying these to an Obituary Board, and a couple easy rules will make life simpler later: 1. Only include the actual text of the obit. Comments, Questions etc. can be sent seperatley. 2. Include the name, date and maiden name (if any) in the subject line plus the word OBIT. 3. Capitalize all Surnames Ok... hope someone finds these helpful.. I am also going to send some that i know contain names of some of your folks, I saw a lot of names in the roll-call messages. 1. [PAMONVAL] DELL and BAIN surnames
    2. Anna Belle Emery
    3. Hello list, My name is Anna Belle Emery, a native of Duquesne and graduate of Duquesne High School and Grove City College. I left Western PA when I got married but all my "roots" are there. I am especially interested in the DELL and BAIN surnames. Jacob (1820-1899) and Mary A (HARMAN) DELL (1831-circa 1910) lived in Duquesne, although according to her obituary Mary died in Clairton at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. J. HORTON. One of Jacob and Mary's other children was William Franklin DELL (1853-1925) and he married Mary Catherine BAIN (1856-1943) whose parents came from Scotland. I would be interested in hearing from anyone who has any information on these surnames, either on the ancestors or descendants. Would be happy to share the information I have collected in the past two years since I got "hooked" on my genealogy. Retired in Tucson, AZ, Anna Belle mailto:[email protected]

    1. [PAMONVAL] Roll call
    2. My name is Linda and I live in Northern California, although I was born and raised in the Mon Valley and graduated from Monongahela High School. I am researching: CHESTER -- The oldest Chester I have is Joseph Chester, died about 1806?? They are said to have "come from the east" but I don't know where as yet. They lived in the Fayette, Westmoreland, and Washington County area, and Joseph Chester born 1779 died 1826, and his wife, Elizabeth Aiken Chester, are buried at Spahr's Knob (the old Lock 4) in Charleroi. Many Chesters lived in Allen Township and others lived in Mnongahela City. Names the Chesters married include FOSTER, BATES, AIKEN, and JACKMAN, among others. CLENDANIEL -- Sampless Clendaniel was a riverboat repairman in the Fredericktown area; he was born 1832 and died in 1928. He was married to Elizabeth FITZSIMMONS, who died in 1897; they both are buried in the Van Voorhis cemetery near Monongahela. John CLENDANIEL, born 1803, died 1887, was first married to Rachel STANTON, who supposedly is buried in Fredericktown although I have not yet located her grave. His second wife was Sarah GRIMES BERRYMAN. John and Sara are buried in Howe Cemetery, near Charleroi. DAWSON - Robert Dawson was born after 1790 in Maryland or Pennsylvania, died in 1863 in Connellsville; his wife was Elizabeth Delaney, born 1798, died 1868; they both are buried in Chestnut Hill cemetery, Connellsville. His son George DAWSON was born in 1828, died 1916; he is buried in Richland Cemetery, McKeesport. His first wife was Mary Ann TEDROW, born 1841, died 1909, buried in Bunola. His second wife was Laura B. THOMPSON. Other related names in this line are KIER, BURKHART, and BARKLEY. I would love to share information with any others researching these lines. 2. Peg Duffy
    3. New to this list, I have only one surnmae, DOWLER,in the area. To complicate matters, the time frame is rather short: from about 1775 to 1810. George Dowler was born in Westmoreland in 1776.(Westmoreland covered a lot of territory then!) His son born in 1804 is listed as Brownsville, but I wonder if that is *West* Brownsville. The next son is shown as being born in Washington County. By 1811 they all were in Ohio County VA/WV. The only one to come back to PA was my mother's maternal grandfather, who settled in West Middletown. A side note: I really had no intention of researching this surname until several years ago I saw a query on the Washington list for siblings of great-grandmother. Through that post I have met a third cousin in San Jose CA and the family military history expert( Civil War) in WV. My assignment is to determine whether George was a Methodist circuit rider, an Indian fighter, or both. I am extremely familar with Allegheny County PA; somewhat with Washington; minimally with Fayette. My current residence is in the Columbus OH area. Peg [email protected]

He founded the first church in Monessen, the Methodist Church, and served briefly on the Monessen City Council. The other families I am researching went to in the Mon Valley area much earlier. I am researching the Jackman family of Pike Run and the other families that married into that line including: Dunlevy, Shively, Crow, Crawford and Murphy. On the other side of the river in Fayette County, I am researching the Walters family. My grandmother was Ruth Walters, who is the gggggrandaugher of Ephraim Walters b. about 1737/1744. The other associated names are DeBolt, Hyatt, Lewis, and Harn. I almost forgot an important branch in my family, that of the Moyer.
