Dave, Yes, it's Long Branch Borough. Many years ago the caretaker lived in Coal Center, but I don't know about today. Coal Center is actually closer to California, and Howe Cemetery is closer to Elco. Does anyone have or now where the California Sentinental Newspaper is archived for the years 1925 through the 1930's. I believe this was a weekly newspaper and it burned down in 1954. Dave Copenhaver Monongahela PA mailto: [email protected]
Boy, I missed the instructions completely on which list I could take. Thanks for letting me know. Lois
Did or does The Roscoe Ledger print a newspaper in the 1920's to 1930's and would there be an archive some where? Dave Copenhaver Monongahela
My gggrandfather James Hedge Kinnan (frequently spelled Canan or Kanan) was drowned in the Monongahela River February 24, 1871. His father Thomas Kinnan lived near Carmichaels in 1876, according to the twp. maps, and James and his wife Lavina Tuttle lived in the Wana area in WV in 1860 census. I hope that someone in the Mon Valley more familiar with the area than I could help me find the proper newspaper which might have had an obituary or a news item of the drowning. I only know that it was somewhere on the Mon. River and I assume it could have been near his father and south. Would sure appreciate any help you could give me. Marjorie Smallwood
Susanna Sarah Matheney married William Sadler, William H. Matheney married Lucy J. Saddler dughter of Moses Sadler & Lucinda Minerva Clark, Rebecca Matheny born 17 Apr 1789 Marion County died 19 Jul 1876 Marion daughter of John Matheny married Billie Dragoo and Merriman Price Kenneth Hall
Hi List; I am a novice to genealogy, can someone define the term "SOUNDEX"? Thanks Phil in Michigan
Kenneth - I am interested in your Susanna Matheny who married William b. 1826. I have Mariah Catherine Matheny b. June 17, 1819 in Greene Co., PA who married Lewis Lantz Hildebrand, also born in PA. on October 3, 1816. They later moved to Opekiska, Monongalia Co. WV. Their son John Hildebrand established a store at a place now called Hildebrand, was Constable/Sheriff and the Hildebrand lock & dam on the Monongahela was named after this family, according to family history. I have surmised that Mariah was the daughter of Moses Matheny, one of the Matheny lines in PA who migrated to WV at Flat Run near Mannington, Marion Co., WV. Hoping you have some information on Mariah or more information on Susanna. (I'm the listowner for McCann-L.) And, am intrigued because this is a name I've never seen. Do you know anything about the parents of Melford or where this couple lived or where Emma was born, etc.? Hello, Sadler Researchers, It could be that the John Sadler b. 1810 in Westmoreland was the John Saddler, son of Rudolph SADLER in the following tree. Or, he may be related in some other way to this family. This surname is often seen as SADLER instead of SADDLER and even possibly STATLER and perhaps STRADLER. These SADLER/SADDLERS were in Point Marion which is at the juncture of the Cheat and Monongahela Rivers. 1 Jacob SADLER b: 1742 in PA d: December 12, 1817 in Springhill Twp., Fayette Co, PA Death Date: December 21, 1817 Burial: Gans Cemetery per Gans Family History -George Gans Farm .. +Maria Magdalena SOUDER b: February 11, 1767 d: April 23, 1858 in Springhill Twp., Fayette Co, PA Residence: 1830 she was living alone in Springhill Twp., Fayette Co. I am also looking for information on James D. WATSON, a merchant of McKeesport in about 1850, whose daughter Harriet Ann (12/3/1839-6/25/1910) married Harrison BILES on 4/29/1860 and then lived in Allenport. Any WATSON family information would be welcome. Thanks. Lynne Mayer ===== __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Bid and sell for free at http://auctions.yahoo.com
