Please, you AYRES and AYERS researchers out there! Read this in preparation of my Query... Chronicle of the Yerkes Family with Notes on the Leech and Rutter Families 238. SILAS AYERS YERKES5 (Benjamin4, Silas3, Herman2, Anthony1), son of Benjamin Yerkes by his wife Rachel Buzart, was born in Moreland, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, 1 November, 1799; died at Rochester, New York, 1 August, 1878. At the age of twenty-two he went to Rochester with his parents. For a number of years he was justice of the peace of the town of Gates, now a part of Rochester. In 1854 he was tendered a nomination to the Legislature, but declined the honor, as he intended moving to Lima, New York, in order that his children might have the educational benefits of the Genesee Wesleyan Seminary, which later became Syracuse University. While in Lima he engaged in business as a hardware merchant. In 1870, he returned to Rochester, where he resided until his death. He was a member of the Plymouth Church in that city. He married, 25 December, 1826, Susannah Sarah Hill, born at Hopeton, Oneida County, New York, 25 January, 1805; died at Rochester, 8 June, 1872; daughter of James Hill by his wife Catharine le Tellier Bruff. Now, Benjamin4 is this Benjamin: Benjamin Yerkes b. Feb. 22, 1768 who m. Rachel Buzart b. May 10, 1772 and which marriage took place in New Hope, Bucks Co., PA on May 10, 1791. This Benjamin was also s/o Silas Yerkes and Hannah Dungan. Very familiar names, no? I won't get into them. But they did have one child, Deborah Yerkes, who married a SAMUEL AYRES. This Samuel AYRES, was b. March 28, 1749 in Abington, PA, and d. Oct. 26, 1804, in Abington. He is also, the s/o William Ayres and Margaret Mary Kean. William came from County Antrim, and was the son of Samuel and Margaret Richmond Ayres of County Antrim... SO! Now my question is this. Was Silas AYERS Yerkes, really Silas AYRES Yerkes, with his name misspelt by this book, or was it truly Silas AYERS Yerkes, and was there some misspelling on the part of the father, Benjamin, or was there some AYERS influence I am not aware of, or some actual connection between AYERS and AYRES? I guess, I am just asking for commentary on this to help me see if there is some connection after all? Something definite, not obscure and from the past, such as The Ayres Name all came from So and So and thus must be connected... Thanks, Vince Summers
