Does anyone have any ideas on where to go to find any data on a ancestor who shows up in Montgomery County in 1748 at Son's birth, but is on no ships list. This is the first contact so I have no idea who his parents are. I believe he immigrated from Switzerland. Can find a close app. birthday on FHC microfilm but can't bring him across the seas or trace back further in the US than 1748. The questionable parents cannot be found crossing or any records of either. Help! If you have any suggestions I would welcome them. Brenda
I think maybe just a little more explanation might help. How does a parent show up at a son's birth? By this you mean the father, right? If you are not sure the son is an immigrant, I would not assume he is. I would look in Montgomery County. Then I would broaden out one county all around. I would assume he has the same last name, and that only spelling at most was changed. Maybe you could tell us his name, and where he was precisely born, if possible, and why you think he was from Switzerland. I think this would help. Though not a resident of Montgomery County, I would be willing to spend a half-hour web-search time to do what I can, and scratch my head to think up some ideas you could try out. I am sure others would do the same, and maybe someone could come up with something...
