    1. Re: [PAMONTGO-L] delayed birth records
    2. From my experience........ 1. First always check what counties were in existence when the person was born. New counties were created from old ones. And sometimes because of that, you find you are researching in the wrong county. For example, my ancestor was born in Huntingdon County, Pa. (present day Blair County, Pa.). So even though his record said he was born in Huntingdon County, I would be wrong to research in Huntingdon. I need to research in Blair County, Pa. 2. Delayed birth certificates can have correct or incorrect info on them just as early birth and death certificates can have correct or incorrect info on them. Generally speaking, the closer the relation of the person giving the info, the greater chance to have correct info. So I try to identify the source of the info. Usually a spouse gives the most accurate info. But even children can give a place of one time residence as a birth place, believing that was where he was born. I guess the best thing is to try to work the clues you found...... check out federal census for the area he was supposedly born in and see if you find the surname there and that specific family, check church records in that area etc. and after some investigation, you will prove or disprove that bit of info. Good Luck.......Judy
