    1. [PAMONTGO-L] William Augustin MATHEWS - Baptist Minister
    2. Dick Mathews
    3. Last Sunday I posted a request for help in tracing my ancestor on this list. Within two days I received a lot of replies, some with advice and some with information. I now know that the Rev. William Mathews was minister of Montgomery Baptist Church from 1841 - 50, that in 1850 he was a farmer with real estate valued at $600 and was married for a second time with a young son. His wife was born on 18 Sept 1807 in Pennsylvania, and she died on 23 Jan 1876. She is buried in the Montgomery Baptist Church along with her son John who died on 5 Jul 1872 aged 25. (I expect William is buried there too, but there's no record of a gravestone - perhaps there's a memorial inside the church - something else to pursue.) All this from one post on the list. I'm now following up all the suggestions for further enquiries, and once I'm a bit further I'll probably post another plea for help. I've replied individually to all the people who contacted me, and I've taken up their offers of further help. This post is just to acknowledge their assistance and to say thanks again for such a helpful list. Dick Mathews (in freezing cold Essex, U.K.)
