Actually, Spring Mill is what we in PA call a village. A village in PA is an unincorporated area in a Township. As such, unless someone has the population of an ED in 2000 that would roughly define Spring Mill, the population would be an estimate. I can't improve on Dan's citation. "Montgomery County, the Second Hundred Years" (1884-1984) gives us the following: The Post Office was William Penn from 1869 to 1914, and then changed to Spring Mill until 1923, when discontinued (Conshohocken). "Spring Mill takes its name from bubbling springs that feed a short "run" to the Schuylkill upon which a gristmill was establsihed about 1715. These springs maintain a constant temperature of 54 degrees." These is nothing more written about the mill. Conshohocken library and a historical society have resources. dennis ----- Original Message ----- From: "Daniel J. It is almost contiguous with the southeast corner of the borough of Conshohocken, at a prominent bend in the Schuylkill River. In the 1877 Combination Atlas Map of Montgomery County (J.D. Scott of Philadelphia, publisher), Spring Mill is said to have "in 1858 contained 2 hotels, 2 stores, 3 furnaces, a grist-mill, several machine shops and 50 dwellings." (page 29) The biggest landowners were Sampson, Houston, Righter, Freas, Ely, Comfort, and Lentz. The population in the 1980s was around 300. Maybe a local lister can give us a more accurate population estimate.
