Can anyone tell me about Betzwood Film Co? Does it yet exist? Eaglesbath Onestar is listed as an actor for it. A moving picture actor. This would have been after WWI. Thanks! Vince Summers
I think you might be thinking about Siegmund Lubin, the builder of Betzwood Studio.Lubin open the Betzwood Studio in 1912. It was in Betzwood - across the river from Valley Forge. At one point it was the largest film studio in the Country. Lubin was a Jewish immigrant from Poland. he was an optician - who got into the movie business in 1897. Lubin went bankrupt in 1916. The expert on Lubin is a Professor at Montgomery Community College - Joseph Eckhardt. He holds a Betzwood Film Festival each year in may. Apparently the studios re-opened in a917 - run by Lubin's son-in law. The Toonerville Trolley comedies were filmed in Betzwood. My grandmother grew up in Port Kennedy. Family lore is that she was an extra in some of the films. Her step-brother told me that his father, who was a blacksmith by trade, would play a blacksmith when they made Westerns. (no verification - just lore) The studio does not exist anymore. I went to the site of it about 5 years ago - there was one building or so left - had been used for some industrial use. Last I heard there was going to be a mixed use development. You might want to Google ""Lubin". Hope this helps. Carol Clarke ----- Original Message ----- From: "Vincent E. Yes! And that is what I think Eaglesbath Onestar probably was - an Indian extra. I will have to get in touch with that Eckhardt fellow! Maybe he will know of a list of actors... Vince Thanks! Hi Vince, Small world...my great-grandparents were the caretakers for Betzwood Farm also known as Wetherill. Historical Society of Montgomery Co. has an old film on Betzwood. It was known as the Lubin Studios and produced the "Battle of Shiloh" a classic. Contact me if you want a picture attachment. Judy in Colorado ----- Original Message ----- From: Vincent E.
