    1. Re: [PAMONTGO-L] Marriage in Pennsylvania

    3. It is my understanding that PA currently allows a marriage licensed issued in one county to be used in other counties, however the record of application remains in the county where applied for. The record of the actual marriage should be returned to the county of issue, regardless of which county the marriage takes place in. If the license is applied for in Berks the return will be made to Berks, and if it is filed for in Montgomery the return record of the actual marriage should be in Montgomery. Marriage license applications are public record. Finding the record of marriage can depend on the time of the marriage. Prior to the erection of Montgomery County, the records were in Philadelphia. There is a long history of elopements in PA, and brides traveling to their husbands location during war time to get married. Are you certain they got married in PA? Betty Burdan <bjburdan@ptd.net>
