Dear Researchers, Pennsylvania issues a state license to get married meaning the application can be completed in one county and the wedding ceremony can be in that county or any of the other 66 counties in Pennsylvania. Does the application follow the couple or does the application stay on file in the county where the couple applied for the marriage license? If the application stays in the county where it was applied for would the application be in the marriage license department of that county and is the application considered a public record? I'm having a challenge finding a marriage license so I'm trying to question the application process and how it interfaces with the license. I've looked up quite a few marriage records and they all fit nicely together in that the application and marriage both took place in the same county but now I'm faced with the application in one county and the actual marriage in another county and I need some guidance to follow through on this concept.
