Greetings! As you may know, the 2000 Republican convention will be in Philadelphia. It's the first time ANY political convention has been back to Philly since 1948. I'm a writer looking for information about 19th and early 20th century political conventions. Grant) -- convention held in the Academy of Music, still standing and unchanged 1900 (William McKinley) 1940 (Wendell Willkie) 1948 (Thomas E. Dewey) Democrats 1936 (Franklin Roosevelt) -- convention held at Civic Center, with outdoor speech by FDR at nearby Franklin Field. 1948 (Harry S. Truman) Other 1848 - Whig (Zachary Taylor) 1948 - Progressive (Henry A. Wallace)
