Have you checked for a Hipple death prior to 1870? Perhaps the natural parents were ill, so I would look for records there. The other possibility is that the parents were working elsewhere, or the kids were spending the summer with their Aunt and Uncle. The scenario could be endless. Good luck, Charlotta
