Comments to prior messages First: I think Yeoman was a term used for a person who was a landowner and wasn't his occupation. Next: Not all the headstones at Falkner Swamp Cemetery are in German. But for anyone who has encountered German Headstones I've come up with a list of terms that I call "Headstone German" With a general knowledge of what you might find on the German headstones, and a little common sense on the order you might find it in, the following German terms and their English meaning may be useful as you attempt to decipher German headstones. This is only a guide, or perhaps just simply clues for you as you do your research. Remember dialects will influence the words you find, and spelling, pretty much, doesn't count. Also, the German language ending on a word or the separating articles used will be influenced by the gender of the subject. German includes different words and endings for each the masculine and feminine gender. Possessive forms you may encounter are: mein (my), dein (your singular), sein (his, its), irh (her, its), unser (our), euer (your), ihr (their), and Ihr (formal your). Old headstones will be in an older version of the words and will probably not appear the same in a current German to English dictionary. Good Luck in your hunt.
