    3. Hi Tali --- Actually, Elkins Park is so close to Philadelphia, like about one mile north, that the newspaper of general circulation would have been the major Phila papers. There have been and still are weeklies, formerly owned by Montgomery Publishing for a few decades, and who knows by what business in the 1940s, and now by the Journal Register Company. It might be useful for those in Eastern Montgomery County who know where these are archived for public use to contribute that information. I know that the Montg Historical Society in Norristown has some, and I will keep my comments offline. I did recently find that the Indian Valley Public Library covering Souderton and Telford has the Souderton Independent from about 1880 onward. One good reader/printer, honor system paying for good copies, and real good hours. As an aside, I am listed on www.raogk.com as a quick lookup volunteer who will do obit lookups. Please note that the PHila papers only reach out so far, and lacking easy access to any other paper, please understand that by offering to help Tali on my next downtown PHila run in a few weeks, I may not be able to help everybody. Of course, if anybody can help Tali faster, please advise so on the board and to me privately. dennis gries fort washington ----- Original Message ----- From: "Talisman Barbosa" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, November 08, 2003 1:06 AM Subject: [PAMONTGO-L] Obit Look-up? I wonder if some kind soul has access to a newspaper that would have covered the community of Elkins Park in 1940, when my great grandmother died? If so, I would be grateful to have her obituary. Sarah WHITTAKER Died: 11 March 1940 Thanks in advance for the look-up or advice of how to obtain one. Tali Barbosa Hayward, California ______________________________
