It doesn't appear that Elias Frederick was related to John Wesley Springer or his wife Catherine "Kate" Hunsberger (in whose home he was found in the 1880 census.) Or, if he was, I don't know the relationship. John Wesley Springer, b. 13 Jan 1859, son of Abraham R. & Barbara (Fry) Springer. Catherine "Kate" Hunsberger, b. 21 Aug 1858, dau of Levi D. & Lydia M. (Freed) Hunsberger. By the way, Elias was born 8 Mar 1804 not 1812. Does anyone happen to know if Elias Frederick had a sister named Sarah, b. 1 Nov 1818? This Sarah Frederick married Daniel Yellis Hemsing, but I'm uncertain of her parentage.
