I've "rescued" a group of photographs belonging to the STOWE, BODIE, HALLWELL, and READING Families of Pennsylvania. The first photograph is one of Mary STOWE BODIE taken at the Horning Studio in Philadelphia, PA. Written on the back of the photograph is "My own Dear Mother, died Jan 19 1908" "Daughter Mattie". The photograph was probably taken in the 1880's with Mary appearing to be in her 50's at the time. The second photograph is one of "Mother HALLWELL" taken at the Saiber & Haeberle Studio in Philadelphia, PA. The note on the back of this photograph is "Mother HALLWELL and her beloved son Peter L. HALLWELL, God Bless them all, they were good to me" "Mattie READING HALLWELL, March 1942". This photo was likely taken in the 1890's with the subject appearing to be in her 50's or 60's at the time. The third photo is one of "Himie" taken at the Grier Studio in Philadelphia, PA when he was just 6 years of age. The note on the back says "My beloved little Himie age 6 years" "Mother". This photo was also probably taken in the 1880's sometime. The handwritten notations on the back of the photographs appears to have been made by the same hand. I'm assuming that Mattie referenced on the backs of both photographs is the same person, though I'm not sure of her surnames. Was she BODIE at birth, then READING by marriage, and then HALLWELL after a second marriage? With limited research I find Mary BODIE with a daughter Mattie L. BODIE b. 1860 living in Whitpain, PA during the 1880 census. Mary's husband was William A. BODIE and had a second daughter Lizzie W. BODIE age 17 at the time of the census. I'm guessing that this is the correct BODIE family. The HALLWELL name is a bit difficult to read on the back of the photographs, however, I can't seem to come up with a better option so I'm assuming that HALLWELL is correct. I'm hoping to find someone from this family so that these wonderful old photographs can be returned to the care of family.
